      Unhappy Problems with staying lucid...

All right so i guess im a newbie, been having lucid dreams off and on for quite a while but havent made too much astounding progress as work and school kinda make it hard. Anyway I used to have lucid dreams where i would be in a dream then realize i was dreaming by doing a reality check and things like this. Just recently i started having lucid dreams of a different kind which i guess from the description would be astral projection but i just am not sure. It happens every now and then when i go to sleep and then a minute or less after i lose conciousness i become aware that i am asleep...but i am not in a dream, i can feel my physical body and i hear a very loud buzzing and feel very intense vibration...then my body floats up and i start flying around (or i pull myself up and crawl) and go through my door (which is usually kind of painful..feels like im being electrocuted). I get a far enough way away from where my physical body is and the vibration and noise stop...now i feel as if a i am in dream and see dream characters and interact with them, although they have always been the family members in my house. Anyway my problem is that refocusing on my hands or rubbing my hands together does absolutely nothing to keep me in the dream. In fact last time this happened it felt as if my hands were very dirty and had too much friction to rub fast enough..I have yet to try spinning although i plan to. So if anyone has any suggestions please let me know..also is this a dream or astral projection? feels the same as a dream but the introduction is completely different.

      Thanks
      -Mitch

Well, if I don't want to wake up I just start examining the dream world. It always works for me. I just look around, see every little detail, hear every little sound, go around and touch things, smell things... And always stay focused.

As for your other question, I think that's a WILD (Wake Initiated Lucid Dream). And what you experience (then my body floats up and i start flying around, and i hear a very loud buzzing and feel very intense vibration) are hallucinations.

      Hope this helps.

The loud noises, buzzing, electrocution, and vibrations are very common when transitioning to a dream. Read around about Wake Initiated Lucid Dreams (WILD), or Astral Projection, like you already mentioned. You are definitely not alone in your experience

Stabilizing yourself in the dream can be tricky. You have to figure out some tricks that work for you. For most people, it gets easier with practice. Maybe we get used to the weird feeling of being lucid. When I feel the dream slipping, I try to engage the dream world with my senses. I look carefully at my environment, touch solid objects, and look at my dream body. This helps me forget about the sensations that still may be leaking in from my real body back in bed. It can also help to get away from your bedroom or house. Get out into the sunlight, or a well lit place that does not remind you of sleeping.

It definately sounds like an astral-projection and then rubbing your hands won't do you any good. From what i've read it is hard to make AP's last long. To do this you will have to raise energy before doing the attempt, but hey thats another story... (You may want to check out some AP-websites; www.astraldynamics.com , www.astralpulse.com or www.Astralsociety.us )
