Thread: Recurring persons in dreams

For the most part, I usually don't have any people that I actually know in my dreams. I almost never see my actual friends and family (I do sometimes, but it's very rare). For the most part it's just little old me in there.

However, lets say about 4 or 5 years ago, I knew a guy named 'Bob' (hypothetical, of course). I haven't spoken to Bob in more than 2 years, and I haven't seen him in more than 3 years. For some reason, 'Bob' shows up in way too many dreams. Nine times out of ten, if there's another person in my dream who is actually recognizable, it's Bob.

I don't want to think about Bob any more, and it makes me kinda sad when Bob shows up in my dreams (when I wake up, that is, I usually tend to enjoy Bob's company in the reams). :\

I can't help but think there's some reason this is happening.. I mean, of all the people to keep showing up. Of all the people I see every day, and the people I'm always with, I never see them - only Bob.

Also, this has been occurring since before we parted ways, but it's been happening more lately (past 3 nights).

So my question is; if I don't want to think about Bob anymore, because it usually dampens my mood once I've woken up, why does he keep showing up? For what reasons does someone keep showing up like this, even once they're not even part of my life anymore?

I'll go out on a limb here - the subconsciousness can do such things especially with your ex, or any important person. it doesn't mean anything and with the practice of lucid dreaming you can confront them and get closure.

my guess, based on my own experiences and convictions... bob is dreaming about you as much as you about him. probably some higher force didn't want you both to ever part your ways, probably because there's a future in heaven where you'll be together with the people you love again. but that's just my 2 cents

or you could ignore this nonsense and well, dreams usually bring up things that you think about in waking life, or things that effect you emotionally. Even though you would prefer not to dream about Bob, Bob will keep showing up until you can convince yourself that Bob is meaningless or that the dreams would no longer effect you, in which case they would probably stop.

you're right. i shouldnt be rude. however your explanation is not backed up by any scientific evidence, and also doesnt help the original poster that much. what would you want Giant Jack to do now after having read your post? wait till he 'goes to heaven' and see what happens? i was just trying to be more practical, realistic and using information which is scienfitically plausable.

People here have bad tendencies to dismiss religion. For the most part, this website is about the science of lucid dreaming, and as most of us know, science and religion usually don't mesh very well.
Anyways, I have friends I haven't sen in years, and they still pop up every now and then in my dreams. I really don't know why. Maybe you should try and contact Bob. You just go to Yahoo people search. For first name, Bob. Last name Bobertson. State Bobland. City Bobtown. (Just had to slip a joke in there). Seriously though, I would definitely try contacting him again. Maybe he's had similar experiences.
