      Newbie - no dream recall.

Ok so this is my first post, I've been browsing these forums and others for a long time now and the idea of lucid dreaming is something that I find very interesting. However, I have a pretty big hurdle to overcome which is why I decided to finally post.
From what I gather, good dream recall is the first step and that is where my problem lies. I have no dream recall whatsoever!, I cannot remember a single time in my life where i have actually recalled a dream (which is kinda lame).
Everything I have read suggests the way to improve it is to keep a dream journal... except my dream journal is blank. I wake up in the morning and I've got nothing.
Keeping a dream journal is something i'd like to do, but any ideas how I can kickstart the process?

Maybe I'm a lost cause, I dunno. Any help and suggestions will be greatly appreciated

      Step 1. Dream Journal
Step 2. Keep your eyes closed when waking up.
Step 3. Do not smoke pot.

If you have any supplements around you can take some. You can look at this to see what they are. Make sure to right anything and everything about your dream.
if you can read this then you are about to be punched

      1. Nothing to write
      2. Hasn't made any difference
      3. I Don't

Thanks for your quick reply though

Rovman, it is interesting that you say you cannot remember your dreams.. I believe you, because I know it is possible for people to struggle with that.

If it helps you at all or gives you any type of inspiration. It is a PROVEN FACT that everyone DREAMS (no matter if they remember them or not). Now in your case, it's about going on and figuring out how to get you to the point of remembering something from them.. even if its just 1 sliver of a dream, it is a start... I believe if you stick around here long enough, you will be on your way to remembering dreams in no time!

Hey man, I had HORRIBLE recall for the first few WEEKS I tried. Like zero recall no matter how hard I tried. You just have to keep on trying and keep on thinking about dreaming every time you go to sleep. Now, a month later, I'm having multiple and vivid dreams nightly. If you've never had a dream your entire life, you might want to set your alarm clock to wake yourself up during REM cycles. You'll need to try this several times to get it right. But you need to know what a dream is like in order to affirm to yourself that you'll have one. But if you've dreamt even once, that's enough... just go to bed every night fully expecting that you'll wake up remembering your dream, and when you wake up immediately ask yourself what just happened/what you were just doing.

Another way to make it easier is to wake up a little earlier than normal, then go back to bed. You WILL recall your dream if you do this. Or try taking really short naps during the day.

Try setting an alarm to go off a few hours into your sleep. Try to make it something that will gently wake you up. Waking up to a loud alarm or a person or in a rush usually makes me forget mine. Try a cell phone on the vibrate setting, for me this is perfect.

Keep something by your bed to write on, DJ or just a piece of paper. Whenever you wake up in the middle of the night, you're going to have to be forceful and say "I AM going to write this down!" You don't have to write anymore than just the time you woke up, anything you can remember from a dream. Or even, if you wake up scared, happy, whatever. Just the little things that you can kind of pick up on, even if you're not getting a dream itself. But, make sure to write down when you're waking up from your dreams, so that you can estimate when you're having them.
