      Something about me

      Greetings,

As my username hints, I've been studying folklore and shamanism quite some time by now and I'm also an amateur magician.

I have had only few LDs and the degree of my control has been relatively low. Themes have usually been related to my studies, in other words I've had epical myth LDs. Different kind of gods and once I even tricked the Devil. Even though I couldn't control the looks of hell (very Gothic style with stone floor), I was lucid and able to make the Devil look like a fool in his own magic.

I've tried to do RCs now and then by having a piece of paper on top of my TV, which says: "Are you awake? Are you sure?" and I read it, turn my head away and imagine it says: "No." and look back, but so far that hasn't worked. I should have lot of texts in my dreams for this work, right?

Got interested in practicing more of LDing after I listened a lady telling in a podcast how she is a regular crew member of the U.S.S. Enterprise. There's a goal for me. I want to sit in that mid chair and say: "Warp 9! Engage!" Oh, I have kept dreamjournal on and off for about five years now.

Cool. It's nice to have you around the forums. You may want to check out the Beyond Dreaming section. For the shamanism stuff.

I love those epic mythical dreams. I always wonder if they are a product of studying mythology, or the origins of humanity's mythology. Instilled by our culture, or the inspiration for our culture? There seems to be consistent cross cultural themes in mythology and the structure of storytelling that stem from some sort of base human instinct. Maybe these dreams are just an expression of that instinct.

I often wonder the same thing about the stereotypical "movie dreams." Do we dream them because we are used to watching movies? Or do we make movies the way we do because they resonate with our instinctual dreams? Movies are definitely not made to mimic reality. Are they made to mimic our dreams?

      Thank you!

      Thank you!

Yes, I believe it is something that is "built in" to us. We just have natural understanding of myths. One of my friends uses a term genuine human experience when he is talking about how we experince different myths and mythical themes.

Joseph Campbell says: "One knows the tale; it has been told a thousand ways.", in his book The Hero with a Thousand Faces. No matter what the culture is, there are always similar themes and tales. Also the "Hero's Journey" what he talks about can be found in different forms in all the classic/popular movies.
