      A new guy in town

      Hi everyone!

I'll jump right into the subject; the quest for an LD. (More specifically; a WILD).

About 1 1/2~2 weeks ago I developed a mild interest in LD'ing. In my life, I only experienced this twice - years ago. Both being DILD's and both not having lasted any longer than 10 seconds or so.

Personally, I rarely dream (Yeah, everyone dreams every night - you know what I'm getting at, I rarely remember my own dreams). And since I developed my interest in LD'ing, I can only remember (and having written down) 2 dreams. Tuesday morning at about 9-11 AM I hit the jackpot though and had an LD , more specifically a DILD (Or maybe 2, I don't know). I was in a dream standing around a group of friends I hadn't seen for years at a location I hadn't been for years and out of nowhere I realized HEY! THIS IS A DREAM!

I was literally jumping around of joy in the dream because I had made it and started doing the only thing I had read and knew about LD'ing to that point; circle around to keep the dream going. (Strangely enough me being overly enthousiastic didn't 'break' the dream off at all.)

Circling done, and now for some action!

...or so I thought. I had a very difficult time trying to control my dream, maybe because I also had no idea how. So I tried to walk around a bit in the place where I was, and when I started to run/walk I kept making faceplants for no reason. Circle around a bit more, another faceplant and I felt the dream fade away.

Thinking "nooooooooooo!" to myself, I experienced something rather strange. I'm quite sure I was awake in the real world again with my eyes closed. What surprised me is that the flashy darkness of my eyes quickly faded again (in about 5-10 seconds). And there I was, back in the LD, at the location I wanted to be. This dream lasted just as long as the previous one, about ~20-40 seconds and yes, I still had a difficult time trying to control the dream.

My question here is; what was that state? A semi FA? I think that would be rather strange because if it was an FA that would mean that I was dreaming, while dreaming! This is because I went back into the LD shortly after 'waking up'.

Anyway, after having the LD I suddenly got a massive interest in trying to do this again <it felt GREAT!!> and as such I ended up on this site. Read a boatload of stuff and tried to (unsuccesfully) WILD last night.

Why WILD after just having my first LD, and only having remembered 3 dreams in total? Well, because I naturally have a very hard time to get to sleep. It can easily take over an hour each day for me to get to sleep. This is because I constantly catch myself drifting off in random thoughts, I can't help it. Every time I drift off to dreamy-land I'm making an OMG! RANDOM THOUGHTS! reaction. And when I do this; I keep moving and turning around.

Because WILD'ing seems to be all about keeping conscious while laying perfectly still and getting your body to sleep, I hope that this major annoyance of mine not being able to sleep is actually a godsend . And so I tried to WILD last night.

Stupid as I am, I set the alarm clock at 6 AM. Stupid, because the shower in the house would get used, cars driving around, people working, dog barking etc. In other words, WAY too much noise for me to concentrate on breathing and counting.

Well, I was trying to WILD. First, my body became a bit heavier, and heavier until it felt kind of numb. Then after a loooong time my eyes and/or eyelids starting twitching and moving like crazy (with alot of light flashes, colours etc). Sadly enough I couldn't get any further than this. Believe me, I tried for a long time - about an hour of counting. I think there was simply too much noise for me to be able to concentrate and WILD succesfully.

And there, my attempt ended and failed. I kept getting to the point of my eyes and eyelids moving and twitching rapidly for about a minute, and then back to "numb body" state. Back and forth around 4 times and then I just gave up, and went to sleep.

My questions regarding WILD'ing: Do I really have to stay awake for ~30 minutes after the alarm clock went off? I'm afraid I'll get too conscious when staying awake for that long. All I did was go to the bathroom, drink some water and back to bed.

And what do you do about your spit? Just keep swallowing it down? That's what I did, but I'm not sure whether I should, considering I should keep my body perfectly still and all that.

Anyway, I'll be trying again tonight - I'll go to bed earlier today so I can wake up at around 3 or 4 AM when everything's still quiet. I'll update this thread tommorow with my next attempt!

Its all about preference. You need to keep trying it until you get the right time for YOU.
Personally, I only stay awake around 5 minutes.

As far as I am aware, swallowing your spit it okay. However, who you do it, make sure you don't put too much effort into the action.
You should get to that state where swallowing your spit will happen naturally without your realizing you just did it.

Make sure you have about 6 hour sleeps before WILDing

Alright, thanks! I'll be remembering that for tonight. I had the idea that swallowing was distracting me from actually concentrating on what I should do, but if it's OK I'll just keep doing it.

And yeah, I read that ~6 hours of sleep before trying to WILD is preferable.

'Ey Everlast! Good to have someone so interested on the forums.

(Strangely enough me being overly enthousiastic didn't 'break' the dream off at all.)
It seems the ecitement thing is only disruptive for some people, while others can get excited and be fine. Apparently, it doesn't bother you! [Though excited thoughts may make dream control tougher, since you likely won't be thinking clearly.]

I'm quite sure I was awake in the real world again with my eyes closed.
I know this feeling very well. But I think it's just that... a feeling. About half of the time when I feel trapped right in-between the dream and waking state I either pull myself back into the dream, (leading me to believe that I was never awake at all,) or I 'wake up' into an FA. Be sure to check if you woke up into another dream next time you slip out of your LD!

It very well could be used to your advantage, since your mind probably won't fall asleep before your body does.

However, it could also be curse. Yes, when WILDing keeping your body still and not being distracted by outside things is important. But just as important, if not moreso, is keeping you mind clear. That's why you are counting- to keep your mind off of anything that will keep you from getting relaxed. Some people need something a bit more distracting than counting before they can get into a meditative state. I personally use tic-tac-toe. But complex or random thoughts will likely ruin your chances at getting a WILD.

As far as swallowing your spit, I'd do it only up until SP starts kicking in, since your body isn't swallowing much spit while asleep.
