      Is this normal?

ok so i pretty much was dosing off last night, and i was somewhere between sleeping and awake. i started having a dream in my head, and i could control what was in my dream, but i also had control over my body functions (i could still move/open my eyes). but the thing is, if i DID move my hands, arms, or opened my eyes, the dream would either become really blurry or fade out completely. As I stayed in my dream longer without moving, the dream got clearer and more real, but i started losing control of my body functions. It was like i was sleeping/dreaming, but i was still conscious. is it normal to drift into a lucid dream like this? it felt almost like i slowly drifted from conscious to unconscious very slowly, and as i became more unconscious, the dream became clearer. but even as i became more and more unconscious, i still had complete control of the dream. i even woke up sometimes and shifted the way i was sleeping (because i was uncomfortable) and was able to get right back into the dream (with full control) right where i left off (and woke up). i didnt use or recognise any dream signs, but i knew it was a dream when i could still move my real body, and i could still see the dream. i remember the dream really clearly and it was great. if i could get lucid dreams like that every night it would be great. I think i could call it my first 'real' lucid dream.

First off, welcome to Dream Views!

Second, I know what you're talking about, but I'm a little different.

Sometimes when I'm really tired, I won't completely fall asleep, but I'll jump right into a dream. I'm not completely concious when this happens, and I don't realize I'm dreaming. I'm still awake, but almost asleep and dreaming. I don't actually move any body parts around in real life, but my dreams are very real and vivid.

I remember one time when this happened, I was falling asleep and I started having this dream of me going into my kitchen to get a bowl of cereal, but I accidently dropped the bowl and right as it crashed, I got startled in real life and jumped a little bit. That often happens when I have those "not asleep but dreaming" dreams.

It's kind of cool, and I wish I could get these more often.

But unfornuatly, I don't have an answer to your question, but it seems that I have similar dreams like you sometimes, so it might be normal for this to happen.

      Slayer,

The thing about last night is that I went to be early (Around 7:30 or 8) but then I woke up at maybe 1 or 1:30 AM and got back to sleep at maybe 3 or 3:30AM (I couldn't sleep). I was wondering if the different sleeping patterns had anything to do with the dreams I was having.

I'm not sure about your sleeping pattern, but i usually get these alot when, i do my nightly sleep, about 12pm-7am and instead of getting out of bed when i first wake up i just roll over and go back to sleep. I get these alot, like i will go to control the dream but sometimes i end up moving a real body part but it might not wake me up the first the time. I end up trying to control the dream without moving but it just starts to fade and get blurry til i wake up, i always thought of a regular dream full screen and this like smaller cropped version.

I think you were only dreaming that you could move your body. That happens to me in WILDs a lot, I think I can still feel my body and lots of times it's just a false awakening.

      Thanks for the replies everyone.

So really I had a WILD?
And it wasn't even like I was trying to have a lucid dream... I was just kinda dosing off and... you know.

I'll have to read up on WILDs and see if I can actually TRY to get in one
