      Dream information overload

The past few nights I've been having really long and detailed dreams. It takes me ages to record all the stuff that went on in my dreams, like I wake up and spend about 15 minutes sorting out what I thought happened, then another half hour writing it down by hand.

first off, does handwriting a dream journal have any advantages over typing it on the computer? This morning I had remembered 2 of the dreams from last night and it took me almost 4 pages to write it all down, and that's with me forgetting a lot of details!

Anyone else have a lot of stuff to write when you wake up? haha

Kind of. you can write it down quicker right when you wake up as opposed to waiting until you get onto the comptuer and forget half of the details. If you are going to wait anyway, typing is fine.

I know what you mean! When I have longer dreams it feels like it takes forever to get it down, and my hand hurts by the end because I don't want to pause (and forget details). And the longest I've ever written is a page and a half, so I can only imagine what it feels like to you with four pages.

Currently in life, I spend a lot more time typing than writing by hand, so that's probably where typing would have an advantage. (Less hand pain.) It also takes less room on a computer when it's all typed, whereas on paper it takes more room (pages).

But like eppy said, it could take too long to get to your computer, boot it, and open a document to start writing.

It really depends, I have books and books filled with dreams and the longest I have written down is over 10 pages, this takes some time. I am much faster at typing then I am at writing and the computer is within easy access, but at the same time it is noisy while writing in a book is quite.

I am in the process of transfering all of my dreams to the computer so I can index them and form a database, but this while take me weeks. When I have them all in the computer it will be easy to sort them into catagorirs and also see what dream signs are common etc and how I have progressed over the years.

If you start on a computer you wont have this problem but in saying that I do prefer the books its just...nicer.

I wonder if there's some connection between physically writing something and memory. Maybe the longer writing process helps really implant it in your brain so you can remember your dream signs better?
