Aloha from Hawaii. Of course, I don't really live here, because where are we really, anyway?
I decided recently to see if I could WILD. I heard about it awhile ago, but wasn't interested. Waking Life is one of my favorite movies. I love dreams, dreaming, hearing others' dreams, and almost any movie about dreaming.
I remember lucid dreaming since I was a child, but in the bad dreams I couldn't wake up, and the good ones, I always woke up as soon as I became lucid.
I started keeping a dream journal when I was going through a divorce. Many of the dreams were spiritually significant to me. I have actually dreamed about all three of my 'aumakua/totems/spirit guides.
I believe dreams are important. We sleep 8 or so hours a day. We should remember our dreams as much as possible.
Lucid dreaming is a way to enjoy our dreams even more. I believe dreams are from our minds, they are spiritual, and we can get influenced by others' dreams. I think dreams can also come purely from Spirit. I also think that we sometimes astral travel in our sleep, especially when we have dreams about flying through a realistic setting, such as our neighborhood at night.
Spoiler for lurid details:
Once I knew learned about the concept of lucid dreaming when I was younger, I would always have sex with the nearest woman. But, often when I am lucid, I am aware of my physical body, so I feel myself pressing against the covers or the bed, and it feels more like dry humping than real sex. I felt like me trying to do that was ruining my dreams because it was a disappointment. When I had flying dreams in a realistic setting, I would wonder if I was astral traveling, or if it was just in my mind. I used to fly to people's windows and in their houses, to try and see naked women or people having sex. Every time either the house was empty, or I just saw darkness, or I would lose my lucidity. I think what may have been happening with that was that I was actually astral projecting, and my Higher Self knew that I didn't know the difference between a dream from my mind, and astral projection, and was protecting me from invading others' privacy which I would feel very guilty for.
One thing I would like to let go of, is awareness of my physical body. Often when I become lucid, it is as I am waking, so I am aware of my breath, my body lying in the bed, and such.
I think I have learned the difference between astral travel, and a dream from my mind, and a dream from Spirit. Astral travel is always flying in a realistic setting, such as a city with nothing unusual. People don't see you, and you can't interact, like a ghost. A dream from my mind is usually random, though it can be very vivid. Scenes and characters change without any semblance of an overarching theme, everything morphs. Dreams from Spirit are more like short stories; they are complete standalone entities.
I want to lucid dream every night. I would also like to learn to control things more like make tornadoes. I have a lot of dream goals. I think it would be cool to build a dream house. My dream house is a made from a living tree, a banyan tree. These trees have roots that come down from the branches, and become trunks. In India, people have made living bridges from these trees. I have an idea to grow a house from a banyan tree. A friend of mine had another idea using egg shapes for the rooms, which can be suspended from the branches, by wrapping the roots around the egg shapes as the tree grows. I would like to do this in real life, but also in my dream.
There are so many things I want to do with lucid dreaming. I would also like to increase my magical powers. Whenever I am lucid I can fly and breathe underwater. I was able to change the setting multiple times in one dream I had. I would like to do things like space and time travel; communicate with spirits, aliens, my Higher Self, Gaia, Solaris, and other people; and also experiment with having dreams with others. I think it would be awesome to be able to share a lucid dream with a really close friend, and talk about it the next morning.
I think it'd be really cool to become a wizard, a god, or a superhero in my dreamworld, but I think each superpower must be worked on one at a time. I don't think I'd be able to say, "I'm Spiderman!" and instantly have the ability to walk and walls and websling. I think a god would be cool, because then I could create. Superheroes and wizards mainly have violent powers to destroy or defend. I rarely have nightmares anymore, so I don't really care about killing monsters or zombies in my dreams.
I believe lucid dreaming is an important step in our evolution as a species. We have so much to enjoy, learn, and explore in the Dream World, a place of terror, beauty, fantasy, and spirit.
All I have read about others' dreams so far, was the monthly challenge of people making tornadoes. I was blown away. Reading that thread made me realize lucid dreaming is a skill that can be improved upon cumulatively. I am so inspired. Thank you!
I am excited to fall asleep. Instead of looking at sleep as something I need to do to survive that feels like it wastes time, I now look it as a time to enjoy, explore, and become.
Thank you so much to everyone who started this site, maintains it, and participates in it.
One day we won't need the internet because we will be communicating telepathically to anyone we want to on the planet, and lucid dreaming ties in with that somehow.
Hey WakingNomad, welcome. Long into . I could make one comment to your lucid experiences, if you want to go deeper and loose the feeling of your physical body and of breathing, you can try to meditate in the LD and imagine yourself sinking deeper into it. Also, try methods to stabilize your dream, like focussing on objects, rubbing your hands, etc. Lots of info on that on the forum. Good luck with it!

Thanks! I do Ashtanga yoga, and I have been meditating a lot in waking life. Doing during an LD is a great idea! I used to always try to go out-of-body, when meditating, and find some external wisdom up high in the cosmos, but recently I go in to myself, and ground down. I think the latter method will be great to do in an LD!

Definately. Ultimately the wisdom you seek in meditations is not external, but internal. I have also used this meditation during lucid dreams to stay lucid in deep sleep, which is also a very interesting experience you might want to pursue if you get the hang of it.
