Hey! I'm Dan.

Well, I've been on and off interested in the field of Lucid Dreaming for I'd say about 8 months now. It all started, actually, from a very vivid and memorable nightmare I had about my younger brother. The morning I woke up, I was so shocked that what happened in the dream wasn't real, that I went to the computer and quickly searched some information about dreams. I hadn't ever heard of the word "lucid" until I decided to click that curious blue link on a Wikipedia page. After that, I was introduced to a concept that blew my mind. Something that I've, well, always dreamed of doing.

See, the kind of person I am, is that once I am interested in something, I need to know every single thing about it. That weekend that I found out about lucid dreaming, I ended up spending hours researching methods, techniques, the science behind dreams, etc. I watched entire series of YouTube videos based on lucid dreaming (Lucidipedia), and I found my way to this website.

Ironically, I knew the importance of going through a beginner stage. I knew that I should have spent that first month learning how to improve dream recall, and then spend another month or so building my ability to both perform reality checks and proficiently use WBTB. But no, instead, I was hooked right into the "advanced" techniques. The WILD.

Right after I read about the WILD, I was, for some reason, convinced I could do it. I wanted it all right away -the vividness, the clarity of perception, everything. So, naturally, I read all about WILDing, and all of the techniques and concepts related to it. Just then, I came back to my usual priorities, and I rarely tried to lucid dream. I was just a person who knew all about lucid dreaming, but didn't ever dedicate himself to try.

Well, now I'm back, and I'm ready to give this a serious try. I've concluded that DV is just about the largest and most informative community on the Internet, and that this will be my home as I learn to lucid dream. So, again, hello everyone!

Now that I'm here, I may as well ask my question. First, know that I have never tried to lucid dream in any other technique than WILD. However, the few times I have tried to WILD, I have always felt the sensation of entering sleep paralysis -body becoming heavy, sudden feeling of "rolling" and "floating", and the eye movement and the sudden lack of sounds from reality. However, I never made it into sleep paralysis itself. I always seems to "pass" the entry, as if. I lay completely still, but I regain feeling in my body, and I need to start over again.

Should I continue trying to WILD as a beginner? I mean, I know that I am at a stage where I have the chance to. Is it beginners luck? Is WILDing a method that is strictly for advanced LDers? Is there any advice to entering sleep paralysis without getting to excited in the process?

Thank You, Everyone!

~Dan.
