Thumbs down I tried to WILD last night

Ok so, even though I'm new to this I thought I'd just try it and see how I got on.

I woke myself up in the middle of the night and attempted to WILD. I kept my body extremely still and kept my mind active with thought of RCs and LDing. After a while I felt like my leg had become numb - no thats not really the right word, I felt like a weight had settled on my leg and then it spread to the rest of my body. I took this to be SP (but it still freaked me out a bit).

I carried on thinking about LDing and found myself...er...drifting (?) in and out of random scenes in my head. For example, I was flicking through pages in a book about LDing and then my head suddenly remembered I was only pretending to be asleep and BOOM, back to conciousness.

I kept at it but eventually must have fallen asleep - and wierdly, when I woke myself up again at 6.30 (the beggining of my REM) and went back to sleep to DILD I couldn't remember if I'd had a dream, let alone LD'd!

      Am I doing this right?

Sounds like you may have been in SP. SP is usually a fairly intense vibration and your body is actually paralyzed. I took this to be SP (but it still freaked me out a bit). If you need to, just think to yourself, "I can't be harmed."

I carried on thinking about LDing and found myself...er...drifting (?) in and out of random scenes in my head. You were so extremely close to WILD right here. Just keep observing the random scenes passively and try not to really focus on them. Just let them pass by your minds eye. Stay very still and try and remain as calm as possible. For example, I was flicking through pages in a book about LDing and then my head suddenly remembered I was only pretending to be asleep and BOOM, back to conciousness.[/COLOR]

Yeah! No problem. You were in the mid stages of a WILD actually. You were experiencing HI (Hypnagogic Imagery). During this time your mind is transitioning to the dream state. Very close and good job! Good Luck in your future efforts!

      ...Wow.

How can that be possible though, I only started this 2 days ago and that was my first attempt.

Doesn't it take ages to learn how to do it?

Thanks for the good luck dude (:

I know! I had to concentrate on staying calm, my heart was beating ten to the dozen!

Practice will make perfect, eventually ^.^ And eventually I want to be able to LD at will, that would be cool.

Scooby, I actually had a lucid dream my first night trying after joining this site. Alot of times when you first read all this new information and your mind is thinking about lucid dreaming so much that you fall asleep and your mind is still thinking about lucid dreaming, thus causing you to be lucid/partially lucid. Some people have trouble for a while and some naturally just get the hang of it right off.

Okay, so if I just keep my mind actively thinking about LDing I'll have an LD? Ooo yay

I'm RCing a lot too which is rubbing off in my dreams

I had a dream on Weds morning and in the dream I checked the time (woo) which I was REALLY happy about, (seeing as I only read this site on tuesday) though I didn't become lucid. I should have done because 8.11am is too early for me to be walking to the bus stop.

I would also advise you start a dream journal and log your dreams from each night. It does wonders for recall which can help lucidity. You can also start looking at clocks twice every time in real life. That way you will do it in your dream and the numbers won't be the same the second time in your dream (Clock RC).

I bought a cute lil Sari Journal on Tuesday and wrote my dream in it when I woke up ^.^

But last night, even though I woke myself up twice in the night, I couldn't remember a thing

Erm, I just stayed really really still and resisted any urge to move AT ALL. Eventually you'll get a really big huge temptation to move your position, but dont! Just stay really still, dont move any eventually it will pass, then like a weight (I felt) will settle over your body. I got tingles as well. And thats it really

Hmmm, okay I think I've hit a problem.

Have you ever been falling asleep and you visualise yourself falling off a curb or something and your body jerks you awake?

Well that keeps happening to me!! :@ GRRRR

Im trying to WILD, concentrating on my breathing and numbers I got to 67 last night and body just jerked. WTF?!?

I wasn't even thinking about falling or anything, it wasn't the desire to shift my position, my body just had a little hissy fit on me!

RUINED my attempts to WILD. Not impressed.

      Can I stop this? "/

sounds like Hypnagogic Jerk, here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnic_jerk
I would suggest that when it happens just ignore it and continue to try and WILD. Relax your mind and convince yourself that there is no need to become startled.

If it just happens and you basically act like it didn't, then I don't believe you have to start the whole process again. You will be kicked out of SP initially, but it shouldn't take long at all to return. Just lay still as if nothing happened and SP should kick right back in. In my WILD technique, I move on purpose and I hit SP quicker than when I don't move at all. I think alot of it is in the mind. Just believe in whatever technique you are using and you will be fine after the HJ.

I don't wear a sleep mask, but that probably isn't a bad idea. I usually get at least 4-6 hours before attempting to WILD and then I always take a daytime nap as well. It is usually 3-5 hours after I awake in the morning (or whenever I awake, noon is morning for me, lol).

Okay, I've been trying WILDing for like a week or so now and I've hit yet ANOTHER problem.

My body doesn't send me signals to move, it sends me a signal to swallow. Which I can't resist, and if I do my throat just goes ahead and does it anyway!!

      WHAT GIVES?!

The trick to overcoming this is to go ahead and swallow, but not pay attention to it. Just lay still and comfortably, but also try to lay naturally. If you have to swallow go ahead and swallow, but don't focus on it.

If you have a hard time not focusing on it you can try these. Lying on your side usually doesn't cause you to swallow as much. You can also prop your head up a bit, so the saliva drains more naturally down your throat.
