      Intro

      Hi. I'm new here.

Some background. I've had some lucid dreams, less than ten in all, I think.

The first I had was spontaneous, a WILD, I just fell asleep in the early morning while following my breath, and went straight into a really vivid LD, clearer than waking reality, and in which I could feel my body sleeping at the same time. Everything was really unstable, the whole landscape was wavering. A staircase opened into the earth just at my feet and a knight in armour came out. It went on like this until I decided to wake up.

A couple of years back I started trying to LD deliberately, read some books, started keeping a dream diary and doing RCs during the day, had about 1 LD per month for a while. I'm a bit hazy on the details now, but I remember one started when I looked at my hands in a dream, and another one involved a false awakening which I recognized. I tried a few things in these dreams, like flying, walking through a wall, and teleporting, and they mostly worked. The dreams were unstable, though, and I had to use a spinning technique to avoid waking up.

Last LD I had, about a year ago, I was in an old medieval town, moving through an alley, and there was a bearded stone face moving along the wall next to me, in a kind of wave movement. I felt that somebody was wise to the fact that I was lucid, and they were there to watch me. I started walking and singing 'I am dreaming' very loudly, but ended up losing consciousness anyway.

After that, no more LDs, for more than a year now. I've been under a lot of stress professionally, and mostly don't sleep enough, maybe that is part of the reason. Anyway, I hope I can get back into this again. Any advice welcome.

The best advice I have is to get involved with your dreams. Remember them. Think about them. Try different techniques and just have fun with it all. You obviously have some experience with lucid dreams so I'm sure you'll get back into the swing of it fairly easily. WBTB is the easiest technique for myself personally to get back into it lucid dreaming when I've been in a rut. If you have any specific questions there's a lot of people here who have a lot of personal experience and can help you. Check out the tutorials as well.

      Welcome.

Welcome atlantic! I had a whole page of stuff for you, but then I just deleted it. To sum up:

      • Change your schedule- I know that this is not always possible (and it sounds like it isn't since you said "professional" stressors, and the job force isn't always very...accomodating.)
      • Get more sleep- again, this may not be possible, but try. I recently (last night actually) just ended my own dry spell, and I think that a major part of it was that I've actually been getting ample sleep.
      • Visit the Ending a Dry Spell tutorial- it has a ton of useful information, and, as you'll note, it will tell you that you may need to change methods. Perhaps WILDing (if that's what you're using) isn't working anymore. I had the problem of relying on DILD's to become lucid...and those stopped working. So, I've had to branch off to other methods to try and become lucid.
      • Meditate- this will help you to reduce your stress levels if you can't remove the stressor or remove yourself from it.
      • Continue with a dream journal- this is of vital importance. You may also want to go over your other dreams that you've had in the past, especially lucids. These have a way of sparking lucids to come.
      • If possible, spend more time here. It may sound silly but it will actually help you to achieve more lucids, as you'll think about LDing more. Do more reality checks throughout the day and seriously question "am I dreaming?" Reading lucid dreaming literature (which it sounds like you have some), and tutorials will help as well.

That's all I can immediately remember from my last novel of advice... Good luck and keep at it. The key is persistance; if you keep at it, you'll be able to have lucids again in no time! There is always hope if you just keep trying!
      ...And then to dream...

Kordan - thanks for the advice. I started a dream journal yesterday, here on the forum, which I intend to keep up to date. And I think I'll be spending a fair amount of time on the forum...

As for the reality checks, it took me a long time to start taking them seriously, but now I do. I actually stop and really ask myself if I am dreaming, whereas before it was just a kind of chore, not a serious question. I look around for anything out of the ordinary, and then I do my favourite reality test, which is looking at my hands and seeing if they change.

Gameover, thanks for the welcome. I've never tried WBTB, mainly because I'm always short on sleep. But I'll give it a shot.
