Hi! New to DV, had two past LD, and just bought some aids.

Well I guess I'll start off by saying Hi to everyone on the forum. Happy to meet (read the post of?) other people interested in Lucid dreaming. I've lurked on the board for a few days now, mostly reading about aids in gaining lucidity. I can assume from what I've seen that this is a fairly active board with core members (posts of 1000+) who can help me with some question I have so I decided to make an account. (something I seldom nowadays with forums, I mostly lurk)

My interest with lucid dreaming began when a friend of mine mentioned that he often has vivid and lucid dreams when using melatonin. Asking him what he meant he explained the infinite possibilities of lucid dreaming and that quickly peaked my interest, seeing as I have a ridiculous imagination after growing up with video games and reading fantasy books. I procured some melatonin and used it with adverse effects, namely using 1.5-3mgs keeps me awake instead of making me sleepy. Although this was before I learned that taking it and staring at the computer screen until I feel tired wasn't going to happen. Anyways, one night I couldn't sleep so i laid in bed meditating for what seemed like fourtyish minutes until the blackness behind my eyelids exploded in the night sky with a couch drifting across it. I was on the moon and I knew in that moment I was lucid dreaming. I turned the couch from whatever color it was to green and then wake up right after, it was so overwhelming, that hyper-real sensation of lucid dreaming. Do you guys know what I mean?

Besides that I've had one other LD and that was the night after I bought The Lucid Dream by Malcolm Godwin in a used bookstore. Something I happened to stumbled upon in pursuit of Huxley's Doors of Perception. Anyways, I'm trying to achieve lucidity more often; keeping a dream journal, buying aids, and now reality checking via rubbing my hands and thinking in my head I will RC in my dreams. I hope some of this helps.

Now that the introduction if out of the way I have a few questions.

      1) I am a pretty depressed 18 year old and might possibly be bi-polar (I don't believe in psychological disorders, I simply refer to the disability in its behavior) is lucid dreaming safe for some as unstable as I?

      2) After heavy psychedelic use over the summer I entered a state where I believed life was a dream and couldn't really tell the difference between the two. It was pretty scary and to be completely honest the feelings have subsided 100%, some times I still feel like I'm pulling the strings in a cosmic Play made just for me. It's a bit odd, and really scary, but I've stopped all drug use and trying to lead myself to some new understanding of the world via meditation and spirituality. Again, is it safe for someone like me to try to LD?

      3) I bought flush free Niacin (400mgs) today which I plan to take with 50mg of zinc. Is taking that much Niacin safe? Especially if it improves the vividness of my dreams I plan on using it nightly in a WBTB. (they usually aren't too vivid and I'm trying to fix this, I have an assortment of Vitamins such as Green tea extract and B-complex with 50mgs of B-6 in it.) I will be drinking a cup of apple juice with the Zinc and Niacin tonight and appreciate if someone could get back to before then.

Thank you to anyone who reads this ridiculous long intro and I look forward to becoming a member of the forums!

Oh yeah, especially those first few lucids give you that overwhelming feeling of infinite possibilities. Its truly amazing.

The dream journal is definately important and the RCs will help as well. I suggest using more than one kind of RC throughout the day. Sometimes certain RCs may fail and it is always good to have a couple back ups. Here is a little more info on the RCs, http://dreamviews.com/community/showthread.php?t=75427 .

Now that the introduction if out of the way I have a few questions.

      1) I am a pretty depressed 18 year old and might possibly be bi-polar (I don't believe in psychological disorders, I simply refer to the disability in its behavior) is lucid dreaming safe for some as unstable as I? Oh yeah, you will be perfectly fine. If anything, lucids may even give you the opportunity to satisfy some of those unstable thoughts with action. In your dreams you can fulfill your deepest desires. It can be a massive stress relief.

I am sure you will be fine. There are quite a few "users" on this site and like I said before, It'll probably help you more than it will hurt.

      3) I bought flush free Niacin (400mgs) today which I plan to take with 50mg of zinc. Is taking that much Niacin safe? Especially if it improves the vividness of my dreams I plan on using it nightly in a WBTB. The recommended dose for Niacin is between 250-500mgs. I wouldn't suggest anything over 800mgs. Just start low and see what your body can handle. Some people have bad reactions to Niacin, but since you went with the "flush free" you should be fine.

Thank you to anyone who reads this ridiculous long intro and I look forward to becoming a member of the forums!
Good Luck in your future efforts. I hope I helped a bit!

Personally mate I'd try and focus your attention on the real world, I've had slight mental problems over the years and the only way to get over it is to focus on life and what great possibilites are awaiting you!

There's no point living in a dream world all your life and putting energy into becomming lucid in dreams, use that energy to become successful in real life, earn some money, travel, meet a lady, fu** her on a paradise island.. It's all out there fella it's just upto you to chase!!

Your only 18, look forward to the future!! There's nothing wrong with trying some lucid dreaming but don't get obsessive over it... I certainly wouldn't be taking any niacin and zinc to try to enhance it!

Keep your mind active and tune into the stereogram.

I see you have done some research already. Don't try to hard. I once had 2 lucid dreams a night without trying. And now I'm trying very hard I don't get any lucid dreams.

So don't think all these product will give you lucid dreams. If there is a product which will give you a lucid dream 100% garanteed then it should be on this forum, however it isn't.

      Good luck!

Thanks for the replys. I am also focusing on real life, namely building motivation for things, and gain the self worth to try new things and not stop after five seconds because I think I will suck. I figured being able to LD will help with that because I try being what I want and see if I like it. Anyways, a update on last night using Zinc and Niacin. I took them with apple juice in a WBTB but couldnt WILD, i layed there for about an hour and just couldn't fall asleep. After that I took 1g of melotonin, fell asleep, and had a lucid! I was in my school, someone relized I was dreaming, then closed my eyes and transported to a friends house, although I was in a chair on the celing when I did this and it was odd and I woke up. I went on to have a very vivid dream that I recall I decent amount of. All in all I think I'm going down the right path and need to read more on WILD.
