      Hey guys, first time here

hey what's up guys. i never knew there was a thing called lucid dreaming until this afternoon!! i searched the net about it and ended up here. i think it's really neat, and i'm about to start practicing the basics. but one thing i've been wondering when i was reading around: guides keep saying to do reality checks periodically. whenever i dream, i KNOW i'm dreaming, and it seems totally different from the real world. if you master lucid dreaming, do you really not know if you are dreaming or if you are in the real world? that idea really creeps me out lol

Well ... they say that LD's are so vivid that it can greatly parallel or even exceed our waking life. That's why a good ol reality check will clear up any misconceptions.

Those of us who aren't "natural" lucid dreamers do reality checks to help us realize that we are dreaming cuz we won't realize it without some kind of test or confirmation. But you state that whenever you dream that you KNOW you're dreaming so reality checks aren't a requirement for you.. it sounds like you're a "natural" lucid dreamer.

      Welcome to the forum !

lol err i meant that when i'm NOT dreaming i know i'm not, and i highly doubt i'm a natural lucid dreamer. i've had it maybe twice in my life, and when i found out i was dreaming, i woke up. i guess you could say i got excited or something.

      Welcome, Octacon!

For me, if I am dreaming and have the presence of mind to question whether I am dreaming, I always know right away that I am. It's those stupid dreams where impossible things are happening and my mind doesn't even question the reality of it that drive me nuts.

The idea of reality checks is to get in the habit of doing them, even when you know fully well that you are awake, so that hopefully you will do one out of habit in your dreams, and trigger lucidity. So far, that's never worked for me -- the only time I remember to check reality in my dreams is when I'm already aware of the fact that I'm dreaming.

I hope you stick around. This site has much to offer, and, armed with the information here along with some dedication on your part I'm sure you'll discover the joys of lucid dreaming.

Glad you are here. I like to know there are other "naturals" as we are labeled here.
