      Question Newbie Lucid Dreaming Questions

Hello, I just joined the site not too long after, being curious about something and doing some quick internet research, discovering that I do something called "lucid dreaming", I guess. It just occured to me this morning about how I've been able to control my dreams since I was a one-year-old (yes, I do have very early memories), and how I always, even to this day, unsuccessfully try to relate this skill to others. We'll be talking and I'll say something like, "Yeah, 'cause, you know when you control your dreams," and the usual answer I get is, "Uh... no?" And I wanted to see if I could find anyone through the internet who has this in common with me, which lead me to stumble on this site.

Like, to roughly explain, I am usually aware that I am dreaming, or become aware at some point. Even if it's a nightmare--but sometimes really intense nightmares, I don't become aware for awhile, and when I finally do, I intentionally wake myself up to escape from them. But as I was saying, I can alter the landscape of my dream, change the location, erase things I don't want there (a body of water for example, given as a toddler/child I had recurring nightmares about water), or if I somehow find myself underwater, I can give myself the ability to breathe underwater (as well as other silly things like, ability to fly, telekinesis, super-strength, ability to heal, etc.) I can bring people into the dream I'd like to have with me, and just in general control things and consciously make decisions about what I want to happen.

From what I gather... that's what lucid dreaming is, am I right? What's the significance of it? I just don't understand the hype about something I've been doing since practically before I can remember.

It would be nice to hear from people who have some experience or extensive knowledge in this area--I'm merely curious about it.

You're way ahead of most of us on this site!

It's a form of entertainment and therapy for me. If I see something/somewhere I REALLY like, then I begin to think my life sucks, so I LD it.

So this is something that people practice at?

      Yes, it is.

It's a skill. Some people are born good at it, most have to work at it.

Alright. And to you, you say it's a form of entertainment, but I was noticing some sort of affiliation with OOBEs and lucid dreaming, so would you say to others, it has a sort of spiritual significance..?

(Thank you so much for answering my questions, btw. I wanted to hear what an actual person has to say as opposed to a wikipedia article.)

Being aware of dreaming IS Lucid Dreaming. Control is a totally different thing, and is quite a bit harder.

If you read my DJ in my sig, you'll see I become lucid and go where I want to, if i'm not there already. I use it as entertainment when i'm there.

OBEs, I have no opinion on. Never experienced. Can't say for sure they exist. I do not believe in the spiritual/body seperation.

I'll be back to answer in about four hours. My class is going to end in four minutes. I'm in computers and have Art and English after this.

Wow I guess it comes natural to you...the way I dream is as if im watching a movie, so I dont have any control of it. Basically I dont know if what im watching is real or a dream...well until i wake up.

I want to have a lucid dream because I want to be able control my surroundings and well do stuff that i can tin the real world (Fly, breathe under water etc.)

For you this must be normal and dont see it as such a big deal

      Welcome to Dreamviews!

Wow, that's really great that you can lucid dream that easily! Most people have a really difficult time with it, and it takes years of continued practice to master.

The average person sleeps around 8 hours each day (I don't know where this number comes from, but it's the one I hear about all the time), that's one-third of a 24 hour day, so by the time you're 75, you would have slept for 25 years of your life! That's an awful long time to waste away, so lucid dreaming lets us make the most of that time.

Congratulations on having such a cool ability! I'm sure that most people would love to be able to lucid dream easily!

Hey, a natural! to DV, the place where no one will ever raise an eyebrow at you when you mention controlling your dreams

I'm like you, I've been able to lucid dream for a long time (found this site consequently because I had questions needing answering), though not as long as you (about 13 years here, I think), and so far not with the same extent of control that you get.

But newbies find this place and have never had a lucid dream before, so there is a bit of hype/novelty because the idea of creating/exploring new worlds, controlling adventures, etc. is so damn cool when they've never done it yet

There is a bit of spirituality linked to lucid dreaming, since people have been able to have out of body experiences. There's also the more controversial topic of dream-sharing which is what it sounds. Meeting up at a specified location with someone and sharing the dream. WakingNomad, RavenKnight and ManofShred are the most successful dream-sharers on the forums.

It's of my belief that the dream plane in particular is the astral plane we all walk as spirits/energy... just my two cents

But, yeah, this site seems interesting. I might start participating more often if my schedule allows it.

      Deep Dreaming forum shall result in a decreased respect for Dreamviews and lucid dreaming as a whole. So, um, unless you like pseudo-science, I'd advise against that. <<;;
