      Hi - Total novice here!

Hi everyone, I'm completely new to lucid dreaming, or at least, the fact it could be purposely induced, as opposed to a rare occurence to some people. I found this website a few days ago after googling the reason for what causes that occasional feeling of falling when you wake up. - I didn't find the answer, but I'm really glad I found this website from it. Lucid dreaming has really interested me now.

Anyway, I've read some tutorials, and a load of other posts. Now my knowledge of it all is pretty basic and scattered. So, could anyone recommend any techniques or tips to me, a complete novice? It may be worth mentioning that at least twice a week, I'll wake up naturally at 4am, notice it, and not go back to sleep for a while. Could this be very useful for trying a WILD? If so, is it as scary as some people say it is?

Sorry, I've rambled a bit. Hope I can become part of this community, as lucid dreaming really has interested me alot. Your tips would be greatly appreciated - Thanks for reading.

If you wake up that same time that could be useful for wild if you can get the hang of it.And SP differs from people,My sp is usually a mellow buzzing and kind of like a feeling i'm rolling down a hill.

Thanks. I really want to try sleep paralysis out, but the thought of an unstoppable, frank-ishly loud noise and motion kindof makes me frightened to even try!

From what I heard intense SP like that is pretty rare.

Welcome to the site. I've experienced SP - strong vibrations, buzzing, gnomes and trolls sitting on top of me, my body moving of its own accord etc. It's not scary at all. I love it and try to induce it deliberately.

Waking up at 4am is perfect for attempting WILD. I recommend you read the tutorials on this site and just keep practicing. Some people develop the skill of LDing quickly, for others it can take longer. I have got to the point where I can have a LD whenever I want. It took me a year to get to that point but it was an enjoyable journey even though at times I found it a little frustrating. Now it's just pure fun!

      Good luck

If you're just getting started, you should do a few things.
      1) Start recording your dreams so you can improve your recall & vividness, and start to become familiar with what your dreams feel like.

      2) Try to remember to do some state testing/ reality checking throughout the day, and keep lucid dreaming on your mind.

      3) Use your mid-night awakenings for a combination of Wake Back To Bed paired with MILD or WILD

Read through the tutorials, in general. It seems like a lot, all at once, but it is really pretty intuitive. If you have any questions, feel free to post them or send me a PM

Thanks for your advice! I've put a pen and notepad on my bedside for a dream journal that'll be starting next morning. I'll also try and WBTB and MILD next time I wake in the middle of the night.

Thanks Robot_Butler, Kamilii and DreamQueen, I really appreciate your help.

      Welcome to DV.
My tip would also be to keep a notebook by your bed. When you wake up, write brief notes about your dream, to help you remember them in the morning. You'll be amazed how easy it is to forget important details.
