      Hello Everyone!

Hello. My name is Jessie and I've been lurking in the dreamviews forums for about a year on and off. I've never had a lucid dream (I had one semi-lucid) but I remember many vivid dreams. The concepts of lucid dreams and dream sharing are amazing to me.

I have found that I seem to have no control of my dreams. I don't see how I would be able to spot dream signs and do an RC if I don't feel like I have control. It is almost as if I wake up and the dream is just a memory. Is this because I'm not remembering the dream very well or do some people just have this problem?

Hello and welcome to DV. Dream Signs aren't intended to be reality-checked while already being lucid so to speak. If you RC to your dream sign in a habitual manner you will most likely do it as you are dreaming, as soon as you see your dream sign you will question the situation and then do a RC and become lucid! Always keep a journal and always spot your dream signs, don't worry you will be off to lucidland in no time!

I know they aren't meant to be reality checked while lucid, but I don't see how I would notice that I'm dreaming while in a dream if I don't seem to even remember the dream until the morning (even though I didn't know it was a dream, I still don't know that I'm thinking anything). Sorry if this doesn't seem to make much sense, but basically I don't even notice until after the fact that the dream was happening (or whatever you would call a dream while you aren't lucid).

Sorry this is so hard to explain.

I understand your statement 100% I use to think this way too I always would think "how would this even happen? I don't understand." It's just when you do something so much your subconscious says "ok ok I get it! you keep doing this so I will do this when you are sleeping!" it's just a habit forming thing, from waking life to dream. Some people who play sports or do art like all the time will often dream about doing just that, playing the sport or painting a picture. It forms a habit of something you do/say/see and incorporates it within your dream. It's one of those tings that just happens you know? hard to explain how or why. It's all about awareness. You are trying to train your logic center in your brain to be a little "on" when you are dreaming since it's off so you can actually question those weird things happening. Like floating cows, if you don't know anything about dreams or lucid dream and dream about that, it is perfectly normal in your dream you have no problem taking it in. If you practice RC's and awareness and see this your logic will say "dude, cows DON'T FLY you must be dreaming!"

Okay, it's mostly just the fact that I've never had even the slightest bit of control over my dreams, it just feels like I am watching them. It seems as though most people at least make some decisions even if they are completely irrational ones they wouldn't make in normal life. I might be assuming other people generally have more control than I do, but it seems like they do.

Well you could think about people who have say, amnesia. They can be fully conscious and aware, but they will have a hard time recalling anything later on. This could be sort of the same concept of realizing that you are dreaming, then having a hard time recalling it.

I think that should answer your question. Sorry it is a little confusing

I edited my post I don't know if you saw all that you just replied. But anyway. If you mean you are lucid sometimes and are just "watching" the dream like it's on it's own course, that's normal. You should gradually ease into control and try not to over-do anything. I don't know much about ludic control, I had a few. One I wrote down in my DJ and a few that were semis. Everyone is different, the control is different. Just keep thinking that you can control it and you will, just don't try anything too big, ease into it. If you are lucid and the dream is setting it's own path, try controlling the scene, the objects, the lighting whatever is there. Don't automatically go right for the 'change the whole entire dream scape' because it wont happen if you are new to this.

I am not trying to sound like I know everything about lucid dreams because I don't or have had few. But I did my research, took notes and talked to many naturals. Just things from them, here, and there. Trying to help out.

I also forgot to add that it's common to not control lucid dreams. There's a difference between realizing you are dreaming, and being able to control it.

We do have a tutorial on Dream Control. You should check it out

I'm a natural, since I was a kid I had lucid dreams. I'm trying to improve my lucidity to several nights.

I can see that your most vivid lucid dreams will lead you into control. I remember dreams saying, "I'm dreaming so I can fly" Just take off and fly. (Flight is considered a hard one) But on other lucid dreams, I tried to start a flight and not being able. I questioned my self, "Why I can't fly if I am dreaming. I know I am" I was 100% lucid but without control. That was something I could not understand, as I did not knew the term of lucid dreams... it was just a, "I know I'm dreaming I can do anything I want" I could never explain the failure to control a lucid dream until I learned about it. I think this is something the all the naturals suffer from time to time until we learn the term of "Lucid Dream" and we understand why we are lucids. With practice you will improve control.

Just for clarification, these are not lucid dreams, these are normal ones I am just wondering how I would ever become lucid by using dream signs if I don't seem to have even been in the "story" until after I've woken up.

That's where RC comes into play. Do Reality Checks all the time. Consider while you are awake if you are really away. Look around for funny stuff... remember what you did your last several minutes... look at your hands, look at a mirror whenever you can... jump and feel if gravity is normal... Might sound silly, but getting used to do this in waking life, you will do it instinctively while dreaming and you will realize you are dreaming.

I thought I gave you my key, but I see I did not, sorry about that.

Please accept this key. Percy opens his hand and gives JessieTea a small shinny key

Whenever you can, check your pockets. If you find the key, the door to lucidity will open immediately in front of you. ENJOY!!!!

Check your pockets even if you know for sure you are awake. Check your pockets now, do you find the key?
