      LDing More Common with Children?

As a child somewhere between the ages of 7 and 10 I could have lucid dreams nightly. Not only did I know I was dreaming but I could do just about anything I wanted. No one ever told me what lucid dreaming was nor do I recall having any discussions with anyone at all about controlling your own dreams. It just happened and came easy to me. I fully understood they weren't ordinary dreams and that it was my own mind controlling them. After the age of 10 I lost the ability to control my dreams and only occasionally am aware that I am dreaming. I have had several lucid dreams since ranging from a vague awareness that I am dreaming to full out content control but very infrequently over the years and nothing like that intense period of dreaming in my youth.

Are children more apt to have lucid dreams then adults? Is this a very common thing with many or most children? (I don't have any of my own to ask )
      They tell me I'm weird.

I would have to say yes, IMHO. From what I've read, it seems that most of the "natural" lucid dreamers had their first LD when they were children, myself included.

It is more common with children. In my opinion, children haven't formed the notion of "reality" that most adults have. Their natural curiosity makes them prime subjects for becoming lucid. Also, as people grow up certain things become higher on a list of importance and those things are focused on. Naturally, dreaming becomes a lesser priority and so we begin to lose recall and, for many, our questioning nature that is key to LDing.

That's just my take on the issue.

It is most deffinatly accurate to say that children have more dreams and Lucid dreams.
First of the youger you are the more REM sleep you have when dreams accur.

      Age
      3-5 months -daily sleep = 8-16 hrs + Rem sleep =40%
      6-23 months

      3-5 years - daily sleep = 9-10 hrs + Rem sleep =20%
      10 -13 years

      33-45 years

So as you get older you tend to sleep less and have less Rem

But the greater thing I feel is going down the same line as Amethyst Star. The mind has not yet labled and interpreted things. And is very impressionable.

The saying comes to mind -"You can't teach an old dog new tricks".
I mind set is a hard thing to change.

Growth Hormone is produced in larger doses when we are young, and diminishes as we get older. As well as the dreams.
Of all the methods people use for Lucid Dreams, all of them contribute to Growth Hormone Release. The underlying factor is that GH induces Lucid Dreams. Eastern Mysticism meets Western Science.
      Various causes for GH release.

      Fasting
Stimulation of endogenous GH secretion by fasting or administration of GH during other catabolic conditions diminishes protein breakdown.
