I know alcohol has a big effect on dream recall and lucid dreaming period. Weed doesnt have any effect on any of recall or being lucid, at least for the people i know.

Hang overs are pretty good for recall, but I usually can't remember the night before so I don't think you could remember any dreams.

Hey Kahiko, I am in the same boat as you my friend. I smoke weed daily but i think at times my dream recall isn't improving but getting worse. I started keeping a dream journal just over 2 months ago and for the first month my dream recall seemed to improve. My dreams got longer and more detailed. However over the last few weeks i have been forgetting almost all my dreams. The only reasons i can think of is maybe im getting a different strain of green or im worrying too much on the fact that the weed will hinder my recall and so it does.

I've decided to not have a smoke today and see what happens with my recall tomorrow
      Peace everyone

Well I would say that if you don't smoke weed, you will have the best chance of recall. Also though if like me and you love your green then leaving yourself three to four hours to come down from your high before bed will help your recall more than going to bed as high as a cloud. These are my results, however they probably differ from person to person.
      Peace

It's easy to learn how to have lucid dreams (or develop dream re-call) with consistent practice. The more skilled you become at entering altered states, the easier it is to go lucid at will.
Any drug will have untold damage to the body, dream state, & memory recall - even if the drug is legal or not. Some drugs are used to enhance dreaming such as in Lucid supplement section

Since you asked for an opinion on recall for weed and alcohol only:

weed - dream recall not so good.
alcohol - sometimes good - Hang overs are pretty good for recall, but so is staying sober and sleeping-in

I heard smoking weed destroys recall. Didn't someone here say he / she / someone they knew lost their recall after smoking weed and never got it back?

In my experience, cases where smoking weed doesn't critically hinder dream recall are very rare. The difference between my recall when I smoke a lot or don't smoke a lot is like night and day. It's no secret that weed inhibits short-term memory. So it's pretty self-explanatory that (in normal cases) it's not good for recall.

Stop smoking for a week and see how much your recall increases.

As far as alcohol, the morning after getting drunk usually brings about stronger REM periods, so your dreams should be much more vivid, lengthy and engaging. I don't know that alcohol has an effect on recall, specifically, but you should be more likely to remember more of your experience, because of how potent your later-cycle dreams are.

My most vivid dreams are after drinking. It's awesome.

But it helps me realise how wierd and fucked up dreams can be.

When I go to sleep stoned I have strange, exciting dreams. But that's all I can remember about them, is that they're crazy. I have yet to have a lucid one, too.

Well when you smoke weed regularly you cant remember anything let alone your dreams, although I smoke every once in a while and it doesnt effect my dream recall at all. Alcohol not so much at all, I've actually remembered many dreams after waking up from a long night of drinking.
