Is Coffee bad for Lucid Dreaming or Dream Recall

I heard something about coffee being bad for lucid dreaming or dream recall, so I thought I'd check in too check if this were actually true. I've had instances that drinking coffee in the evening might have caused bad dream recall, but I wondered if this is always like that.

I would say its the caffeine, and it depends on your tolerance to it. I don't know much about this.

I know of some people who are experimenting with Caffeine as a Lucid aid. These people are already addicted to caffeine. What they are doing, is depriving themselves of the caffeine, and putting themselves into withdrawal.
Then they will take something with caffeine in it and go to sleep. Then, when the caffeine kicks in while they are sleeping, it gets them Lucid. It seems to be working really well for them.

I'm not planning to try it myself, because I hate being addicted to caffeine. But It's pretty amazing, the success they are having with it.
Plus, my personal experience with caffeine, is that it makes it impossible for me to concentrate on inducing Lucids. My mind starts going on about everything under the sun. This also causes my recall to drop. So I stay away from it.

Wouldn't drinking coffee before bed keep you awake? So, I can't imagine that it would be good for lucid dreaming or dream recall.

My mom always has a good sleep after drinking coffee. Her blood pressure is low and it can be normalized by caffeine. So, reaction to coffee is dependent on physical features.

      P.S. Sorry for my english

caffeine can have both a positive and negative effect on sleep & lucid dreaming. If you are doing wild many people recommend you have some coffee or tea before, as this will keep you conscious longer. But with mild which requires you to fall asleep, not so much.
Also caffeine can make you not get tired for longer, which means less sleep if you have to wake up early.

ive always found that caffeine is too much for me and i drink it all the time about 6-7 cups a day. But i will say i heard that the same detrimental effects are credited to nicotine aswell and the experiment outline a few posts above can be tried wth cigarettes)

      Thanks for the replies,

I usually have quite a good dream recall and I can recall the whole story and quite some details, but when I drink coffe I kinda have the feeling that my recall gets worse I know I've been dreaming, but I can't remember what it was about. I don't really have trouble getting to sleep or waking up a lot at night, but I think it does affect my dream recall, I just wondered if other people had this too.

I think it would have to do more of the individual.

I was recently wondering about this. I usually don't drink much coffee at all, but we bought an espresso machine, so the last few weeks I've been having one a day, and correspondingly my recall and lucidity went to crud. The last 2 days I haven't drunk any coffee, and have been lucid on both nights. Coincidence?

I find that caffeine actually increases my recall, in small doses. Like a coke before bed will give me crazy dreams, so I think it depends on the person.

A large amount of caffeine before a nap gives me insane sleep paralysis. By insane I don't mean hallucinations, I mean it just lasts a really long time, probably like 3 minutes.
