      Embarassing lack of lucidity

Ok, so I've had about 3 lucid dreams since I started trying to induce them and they were all about 8 months ago. I had to take a long break to focus on other issues.

Just recently I started trying again and have had some rather funny results. The last 4 days I've come really close to lucidity at least once a night and each night I've had at least one dream about lucid dreaming.

So I decided to use one of the techniques mentioned in the forum about "naming your subconscious" and then asking/telling it to help me become lucid. I named my subconscious and asked it to "help me realize when I am dreaming and become fully lucid," before bed each night.

So after 4 nights of near-misses, last night I had yet another dream about lucid dreaming, and it seems like my subconscious was really, really trying to "wake me up."

In my dream, I was being shown a kind of live "infomercial" about lucid dreaming telling me how wonderful it would be to have a lucid dream. The narrator had the voice of Robin Williams and talked sort of like the "Genie" character in the Disney movie "Alladin."

At one point, the character even pulled out a giant "menu" of things I could do if I decided to become lucid, and was highlighting them like "#8 Fly to the Moon," or "#9 Visit New Zealand"...

So I went through this whole dream non-lucid and when I woke up I remembered it perfectly. And now I'm just amazed partly at how entertaining my subconsious was being in "selling" lucid dreaming to me, but more in how I somehow managed to miss ALL THOSE CLUES.

Anyone else here ever feel this oblivious?

      LOL

Interesting story. I've only seen signs across the room which said LUCID but I didn't become lucid.
Maybe I should name my subconscious because one time it forced me out of being lucid because it said that there is no chance I will become lucid.

You know what, don't worry about that. Lately I've been having (semi-lucid) dreams where I'll be doing something and trying to control the situation, thinking to myself, "This is what'd I'd do if I were lucid." And on two distinct occasions I even tried WILDing in my dreams with no success. Yah, that's pretty lame, but at least it's one step closer to having the real thing.

That's funny when you say your subconcious was trying to sell you lucid dreaming.. i remember after i had first learned that lucid dreaming was possible i was watching Vanilla Sky, I don't know if you've ever seen it, but in the movie they sell this like cryo-freeze thing and it's called a "lucid dream." Later that night I had a dream that I was sitting in the office of this place reading a brochure about it, considering purchasing the lucid dream. I didnt' pick up on it that time... I guess I decided not to buy?
