Thread: An Introduction

I suppose an introduction is in order before I begin to post my nonsense all over the board. I've been interested in dreams for some years now. Even so, I've always had a difficult time attaining states of lucidity and wakefulness whilst asleep, rarely do I reach this state unaided. I believe, like many others, that there is much to learn from one's own dreams, and perhaps even the dreams of others. I hope to gain a fuller appreciation of dreaming by coming here and reading about personal methods and experiences in general. My real interest in dreams, however, stems from analyzing dreams and their interpretations, or psychoanalysis, and the relationship between other phenomena like OBE and NDE. The psychology of dreaming is fascinating. Anyway, this is why I am here and can't wait to start surfing this spectacular meme of dreams. Thank you for existing DV!

What are some of the experiences that led to your interest in dreams?

Good question, ExoByte. It all started when my father gave me a stack of his old books some years back. In that stack was a book called The Lucid Dream Manifesto, and after reading that I was immediately intrigued. Since then it's been more of a passing interest and second thought, but after going through a somewhat rough patch of life I was almost forced to come back to the idea of understanding dreams because I simply didn't know what to make of them anymore. During this period of time I would have these very real, very vivid and sometimes lucid dreams that seemed to pour out into my everyday life. Without understanding what these scenes meant, and why my psyche played through these imaginations, I had to ask what the meaning of it all was and how could I make the best of it. First, I could start by understanding - by compressing and condensating aspects of my dreams - and applying them to real world manifestations. Then, once I could do that, I figured I might as well enjoy them by learning to simply control, in part, how to manage those dream states by becoming lucid at will! It all sounds good in theory, but I'm really not very good at all yet, although I hope to be soon with the help of everyone here on the DV!

Do you remember the author of The Lucid Dream Manifesto that you read?

I believe the author was Daniel Oldis, but that book has long since been out of print. I'm not sure how easy it would be to find although you could always try amazon.
