How often should I do a reality check ?

I try to do reality checks at school.
I do it in the morning, and when I get to school. Then I don't do it until second period when I have a computer.
Then I forget until I get home.

Should I write something on my hand so I do a reality check everytime I see my hand?

      How do reality checks help?

Thankkk youu (: I'm very new to this, but I did manage to have a LD.
I first looked in the mirror, and I looked normal.
Then I looked at my hand, and I got excited because they weren't normal and I KNEW I was dreaming.
      hey there.

Hardc0re...the essence of a reality check is to check to see if you are dreaming.

The overriding rule I would say is to NEVER be sure you're awake, take every reality check as seriously as the last. You only need to spend 2-3 seconds doing them when you do them, but make sure you actively look around for anything strange or out of the ordinary, or for your own personal dream signs when you do.

      That said

      1) I have a digital watch, I set it to go off every hour on the hour. When it goes off, I look at the time, I look away for a second, look back and if the time has gotten altered in a strange way, it's a good indication that you're dreaming. (you can buy a cheap digital watch almost anywhere).

      2) Every time I enter my dorm-room and room at home, I switch the lights on then off then on again, you might be aware that it's difficult if not impossible to adjust light levels in a dream.

      3) Whenever I awaken I do a nose reality check (hold your nose closed and attempt to breathe in) if you can, you know that you're asleep.

-It's best to combine a few of these, but I guarentee if you get that watch or have some way of reminding yourself to do a reality check every hour on the hour (or more) you'll begin doing it in a dream. I know I have.

Do them as often as you can, I prefer being discreet, but if you can write the two letters "R.C" on your hand and you think it will help, then that will probably carry into your dreams and I say why not try it.

Happy lucids, more awareness to you.

Well, try to do reality checks every time you possibly can. What they do, is tell you if you are dreaming or not. Many things in the dream world appear different than they are in waking life, such as your hands. The more you reality check, the more chances you have of doing a reality check in your dreams.

If you would like to write something on your hands, go right ahead. I wrote an A on my hands for a while, and it would remind me to reality check once I saw the A. Although, you might get questions asked from your classmates, which could get overly annoying.

Well the watch is out of the question.
I guess I just simply have to REMEMBER to do more reality checks.
What I love about these forums is that there are people who in their siggy put "reality check time."
It actually does remind me to do a RC.
      hey there.

I could care less if my friends ask.
In class I draw on my hands anyways, it's all I do.
My arms and hands are filled with random crap, so no one even bothers to read or ask what its about. (:
      Thanks, ill try that.
      hey there.
