Question False Awakenings and other stuff!

So I found out about lucid dreaming yesterday and done a ton of research because it just sounds so cool! But then I saw the FA thing and it freaks me out just thinking about it...

I just think "Oh my god you think you're awake and then you see something and realise holy shit i'm dreaming!" and I hate the thought of it. Thinking about it before going to sleep last night made me have a semi-lucid one! Except my room was upside down. And then a monster appeared at the door! I was kinda still feeling dreamy and only just realised that the monster wouldn't hurt me but I wasn't in complete control of myself. Was I semi-lucid?

So are they creepy or anything? Like when you realise you're still dreaming, and are totally lucid, what do you do? I woke up 3 times last night and done RC each time and that's how I realised I was dreaming (that was before I saw my room haha).

And another thing for lucid dreamers... What's it like? Do you feel as if you're in a dream, kind of cloudy or is everything sharp and real? Sometimes I dream in third person, so I'm looking at myself doing things... Can I lucid dream like that?

Ahhhh!!! I'm so excited! I'm already good at dream recall, I woke up 3 times last night and remembered all my dreams. Can do that most of the time

Actually, you've made FA's to sound worse than they are. All it is honestly is having a dream that you're doing your daily routine. You'll be in a very vivid dream, but the fact you're in your room, in your bed, and everything seems to be in place as it should be, its quite difficult to realize you're dreaming. In NO way is it like being pacified and unable to control yourself.

Realizing you're dreaming while you're dreaming also is not scary at all, but quite euphoric. Its an amazing feeling, you won't be scared at all I promise (you'll probably be SO excited you'll wake yourself up!).

Lucid dreams can vary. There can be hazy ones etc., but those aren't really true lucid dreams. Full blown lucid dreams, where you're 100% aware and you have stabalized your dream world 100% are exactly like waking life. Its literally like if you woke up in the morning and could do whatever you wanted. Its hard to explain, but if you're just worried that this was all hyped up and not going to live up to your expectation, don't worry. When it happens, it will blow your mind. Not sure about the 3rd person though, that'd be trippy though.

If you have any more questions I'll be glad to answer them. PM me if you need any help in your journey too! I've helped a handful of people achieve their first lucid dream in roughly 1 week.

First of all, I admire your enthusiasm! Welcome to DV! We're glad you joined us and if there's anything we can do to help, let us know. Also, feel free to browse the site for information, and if you haven't already I'd recommend checking out the Tutorial Section and take a look at some of those just for some more information on induction techniques and other general dreaming information. I'd recommend looking at DILD, MILD, and Dream Signs. Also, if you haven't already I'd recommend that you keep a dream journal to start recording your dreams. Writing them down will help build your ability to remember more of your dreams as well as recall more details.

For me, I can only recall one specific FA. Basically I just thought I woke up and was writing down a dream I'd just had. I think I went back to sleep. Then in the morning I went and checked and there was no dream written down at all... Ugh! Well, for most people FAs are simply as if they're waking up and doing whatever they do when they wake up. It's a good habit to do RCs when you wake up, as you've experienced. As Rathez said, I wouldn't worry about them. It's just another dream and once you're lucid (and sometimes even before you're lucid) you can decide what you're going to do and what's going to happen in your dream. Just enjoy it and take things as they come.

As far as how LDs feel for me, I've had a few that feel "hyper-realistic." The scene is so clear and it seems more real than reality. There are others where it doesn't feel much different from moments before where I wasn't aware that I was dreaming. On a number of occasions, though, I've become lucid and then everything began to go black (I think I was waking up), but I was able to relax and get back into the dream eventually. It was interesting, though, because I could feel both my walking dream body and my unmoving real body at the same time.

As far as point of view, I switch between 1st and 3rd in normal dreams all the time. Usually when I become lucid I go into 1st person POV, but that can change if I lose lucidity. It's different for everyone and so you'll just have to see how your dreams end up

If there's something here at DV that you need help with, feel free to post a question or contact myself or any of the other Dream Guides (the guys and gals with the green names) and we'll do our best to point you in the right direction! Enjoy your dreams and I wish you the best of luck

      Sweet lucid dreams!

      Anytime!

By any chance are you from Fife, Washington? I used to live in Auburn for a little while when I was younger.

At one point, I was also a bit worried about FA. I mean the idea that the same thing repeats over and over seemed frighting but I haven't had it and even if I do, staying calm and RCing when you first wake up are your best defense. If you know it's a dream, you can just get out of bed and enjoy it. No need to worry about

Well, did you realize that you were dreaming? Yes, it means you are lucid. As for if it was semi-lucid, for me, I define it as being aware that you're in a dream but not fully understanding what it means, so, you just continue with the dream, but, it's still a lucid, so, congrats

Well, no, not really. My first one I got really excited and woke up within 10-15 seconds even after stabilizing the dream. As for the rest, in some cases, I would continue with it, in others I would try to do some goals. From my experiences, I haven't had any creepy LDs. Worse case scenario, I'll just change the experience. Last LD I had which was 2 nights ago, I imagined a nice green meadow with the sun shining to change the dark atmosphere of the dream and it worked, so, just remember that fear is what you need to get rid of here

I've had both. I've had some where I felt like an observer and I've had some where I really felt like I'm part of the dream. Being in first person does help with the experience though. Having played a lot of pc games at one point, I get more third-person dreams than first person. In my LDs, I keep on forgetting to stabilize and increase the clarity of the dream and it's a good idea to do both to extend it. As for dreaming a lucid in third person, not really sure TBH

      @BigFan - Thank you

I've been thinking about LDing so much that sometimes I actually feel dreamy (I'm a daydreamer hehe) and have to RC. I guess that's good because It'll encourage me to RC in dreams whenever I feel different

And yeah, I knew I was dreaming but I couldn't really control anything. I was still on auto-pilot... This has happened twice now, I'll recognize the fact that yes, I'm dreaming. But it just won't click, so that I can become fully lucid.

      Baby steps though

Today, I woke up and I forgot completely the dream I had, and then, after falling asleep again, I woke up and remembered it. I think the second awakening was a FA because I don't remember to want to sleep again before writing the dream on my DJ, and I moved a lot before trying to recall

I wish I could draw things like that, but no, I can't (http://www.persefone.com/images/pres...ne_shinken.jpg).
