      I DID IT!!! Twice

Last night I had my first, and second lucid dream. It took me about 3 weeks since i first started. i spent several hours every day reading and practicing techniques and keeping a detailed dream journal. nice to see it payed off
my first LD was extremely short, i would say maybe 3 seconds, pretty much as soon as i became lucid i woke up. I fell back asleep and i had another one shortly after. the second one lasted about 5 min i would say. it was the most incredible/strangest feeling i've ever experienced. very cool. In my second dream i was about to try to float off the ground, but just before lift off i woke up. dam! my dream faded out so fast i didnt have a chance to spin, or rub my hands, it just went from super vivid to black and that was the end of it.
the interesting part for me is that in both dreams, i just out of the blue questioned if i was in a dream or not and then performed a reality check (poked my finger through my hand, and looked into a mirror) No dream signs appeared or non of my reocuring characters showed up it was just a random check for no apparent reason?? is this normal, or does it just happen to everyone once in a while? is this a method i should rely on to induce ld's everynight?

If anyone has had lucid dreams and are reading this, how long do your LD's last? whats a good ammount of time to be lucid? any tips on how to extend the length of my ld's??

      thanks for reading

Congratulations on your first lucids. My first lucid was somewhat like yours. I realized I was dreaming and it was the strangest feeling that I have ever felt. Once I knew I was dreaming I started to panic and I instantly woke up. Some of my best lucid dreams have only lasted 10 minutes. It's hard to stay focused on the reality that you are in a dream when it is indeed so vivid.

Keep up the good work though. Just keep trying and your lucid experiences will become more interesting with the more you have.

Congrats and yes I have had similar experiences. In most of my LDs, I just become aware of dreaming and proceed to do what I want to. There is no set time for LDs, depends on a lot of factors such as time left in your REM cycle, stabilization, etc.....

Congratulations! Welcome to the club of Lucid Dreamers! Its always great to hear about people having their first lucid dream! Mine was increadible short to at first, but they get longer. And i know what you mean about the dream fading out so fast that you dont have a chance to save it, dont worry thats normal when you begin, as you advance in your lucid dreams you will start to notice it sooner and it will last longer, long enough for you to recognize it and save it.

yeah that sound just about right too me. most of the time its like just like you said, I just question it out of the blue like totally random. This is what I think it is, you are now starting to understand what it feels like to be in a dream and are starting to be able to tell the difference between the waking world and dream world. Like Im to the point that when I realize that Im in a dream I dont even do reality check anymore because I can just tell by the way it feels that Im in a dream, and i just look around and tell because usually Im not in my bed sleeping when I become lucid, Im somewhere totally random, not in my bed. a lot about lucid dreaming (especially with WILD) is how things feel...even more so with OOBE's if you should choose do go down that route.

how long my lucid dreams last varies, it depends on what Im doing in the and if i remember to keep telling myself "im dreaming", and how exciting I make it (the more exciting, the harder to control)

as far as what method you should use I would stick with what your doing, because it obviously worked. just keep practicing that method and make it even stronger! it will become much more reliable that way than if you change it.

      Good luck! Congratulations!
