Odd odd family!

When my mother was pregnant with me she wanted to name me Emma, my father's mother talked her out of it because "Emma is a stupid name, people will call her M&M." Anyway after much debate (I am almost 18), my name is being changed to Emma! My family always gets in odd arguments like this. So what I was wondering is if anyone else has an odd family story.

I have a similiar story...

When I was born, my mother named me Hiratio Bartholomew-Thanxton <insert last name>. Each of those names were characters from a soap opera that she had watched while in the hospital.

Twelve hours later my dad shows up at the hospital (he had just got off the road from a coast to coast transport...he was a truck driver) and when he found out what my mother had named me, he replied "Hell no!...we're not going to name my son something I can't spell!

So, they compromised and took a portion of each of there names and I wound up with James Lynn <insert last name>.

I have a twin sister and before we were born my dad was considering naming us Portia and Mercedes. My mom told him, "That's the closest you're ever going to get to the real thing." It wasn't really a serious consideration, but it's still funny thinking about it. So, they ended up with a Shannon (me) and Courtenay. It's still pronounced Courtney, but my mom got it out of some book and liked it better. At one point my sister was thinking of going into the wine industry and naming a wine after herself: Courtenay. (pronounced Court-ehn-ay)

All in all, I have a fairly normal family.

Well, my parents considered naming me "Echo".....I almost wish I had gotten that name instead of Gwendolyn. Especially since the rest of it is so crazed out. They also considered naming my brother Damien "Damien Wolfgang" instead of Damien Alexandar. I think that would have been a lot more interesting, also. If I ever have kids, they will hate me, because I'll probably give them really crazy names such as: Sunshine, Raindrop, Rainbow or Aceandria. I would refuse to give a kid a normal name.

if you prefer that name, just change it!

i legally changed my first and middle names when i was 30. it was a very liberating experience. i was going to change my surname too, but i thought my family might take it the wrong way....

bit of a nightmare trying to get all the companies that send me bills or junkmail to change it though....

Yeah my mom recently changed her name and it's quite the hassle.

O.o Well, I'M sure glad you didn't go under THAT knife!

I was born premature, and my Mom had two miscarriages after I was born.

My mom had complications with me when I was born also......Her water broke, and I swallowed blood which had filled my lungs. I went into intensive care, and it was three days before she could even look at me.
