      Oh God! The Irony

Has anyone here ever said that they didn't like or hated something, but then ended up having to do/use that thing later on for some reason?

Case in point, I've always said that I hated French -- but just today, I had to write an email in French to someone asking if they would send me a video clip they have that I've been searching the entire net for.

yeah, loads of times...my boss has this really great thing that he does...if someone at work says they don't like something about the job, then he will purposely make them go and do that thing they don't like!!
Example: One day i found out that a resident needed to go to the hospital. This resident is known to be a fuss pot, and drives us round the bend, because he doesn't like his routine upset.
I found the note for his appointment in the diary, saying it required an escort.
'oh no!!' i said. 'not him surely? My god, he's going to be a right pain in the arse.'
Now, my boss was standing right behind me, unknown to me!!
And he said, 'ah, thankyou liz, for volunteering!! So kind of you, to save me the trouble of finding an escort!!'

As you can imagine, i have never made such a statement since!

Ouch. So how did things turn out?

Of course, it's actually quite ingenious, as I suppose it does train people (a) not complain and (B) "face their fears" so to speak...

it was alright in the end, the bloke i took to the hospital broke with tradition, and didn't say a word.
And you're right, it is ingenious, if i'm scared of something, anything at all, he'll make damned sure that i'm faced with it at least once or twice in a short space of time.
basically, the theory is this: we all have a job to do, and if we complain, it implys that we don't want to be there, and he has no time for such foolishness...

I was telling one of my friends how this one girl in my grade really annoyed me, and in the next class, I was assigned to a 300 point project with her.
WORST PROJECT I'VE EVER HAD TO DO.
Er, I mean, I learned so much from it. Oh joy.

I hate having to use the heart straps in PE. They are really tight. They are also really sweaty after, but I have to use them to keep up my grade every Tuesday and Friday.

And as an addition irony, the French webmaster emailed me back earlier this afternoon saying, "I don't understand your email. Send your request in English."

PLUS it turns out he didn't have the file after all.

Hmm, I have had cases where there's something I don't enjoy and I have to do it, but not where I *hate* it and have to do it. For example, something I hate (French lessons), i just kinda sit there and refuse to do it. Everybody wins! (read: me).

okay, this isn't realy about something i hate...more an aspect of my personality.
I have very little patience, in that when i ask for something, i want it NOW.
My boss knows this. And today he exploited that fact totally...(i'm still fuming!)
i had to get a letter off him for something...and i had to wait for it...and he knows i hate waiting, so he kept me hanging on!
And then got mad at me!!!

someone stole his oats this morning...

      Yeah...

I hate those bags of frozen peas. But my mom always buys WAY too many. Like she buys 5 bags. Then the next time she goes to the store, she asks me "Are we out of peas?" I say, "No we still have like 5 bags." Then she grabs 5 more "just in case."

So then she goes out of town and I go through all the other frozen vegetables. Now all that's left are the damn peas.

I hate them....now I HAVE to eat them if I want a vegetable. Or go to the store and buy more but I'm not gonna.
