      Question about ssri's and depression

First I'd like to say I am in no way trying to denegrate those with depression or those using anti-depressents.
I have been thinking about ssri's ( selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors)recently as well as people with depression. Those with depression are said to have a decreased amount of serotonin in their synapses creating the low feelings and lack of motivation etc. One way to treat this is by taking ssri's which increases the time serotonin is kept in the brain building up the amounts of the chemical to a normal level.

one of the listed side effects of taking ssri's is a decreased level of sexual motivation and/or ability. My question is if people at normal levels of serotonin naturally, on the whole do not suffer from these sexual inabilities why then would people who take a medicine that should effectively give them NORMAL levels of serotonin then be affected by these side affects?

My logic says that if you suffer from this then something is not working right in your brain. This could also just be sign that you do not suffer from depression and shouldn't be taking these medications.

I understand that everyone is different and react differently to chemicals as well as different amounts of the same chemical. Just wanted thoughts from others.

I don't believe that, in most cases, drugs are anyway to go. Learn what the mind is suppose to be doing, train it to do its job--and in most cases mental health with ensue.

I might surprise one that what people call good is what is really killing them.

Naw, I dont think the level of serotonin is what causes sexual sideaffects, I think it's prob. the drug itself, and the other chemicals that are in it.

I dont know for sure, but my wife is a Pharmasy tech, I can ask her when she gets home
Last night I dreamed I ate a ten-pound marshmallow, and when I woke up the pillow was gone.
