The illusion of freedom is as good as freedom. Until you know. So long as the pet is in a sufficiently large environment, then it's essentially free. And lives.

Does sometimes annoy me a bit that I can't get off this planet though.... but I can still dream.

And to add on, there is no saying that freedom will be better. If I strip you off from your internet, computer, handphone and music and throw you back into the wild, do you think you can survive? No there'll be no kitchen too. Just like the cavemen era. Like how we used to live. Now that is true freedom, technology is trapping us.
