Blocking your sense of smell and taste!

Hey, just wondering if anyone else can block their sense of taste and smell, i can, is it an abnormallity? Like whenever someone farts and it really smells i can just block my sense of smell.

Just hold your nose close. If you can't smell it, you can't taste it. Thats what I always say.

no but i can do this thing without holding my nose, i just do this thing, i can't explain it and i just can't smell or taste

I can't do it instantly, on command, but I can get used to smells. So that after a few minutes I don't notice them. Also when eating something I can kinda ignore the taste if I want to, but I can't block it out altogether. ( I think I might hold my breath when I do this, I dunno)

I just breath through my mouth, instead of my nose. Then I can't smell. Can't block my taste-sense though.

That's really impressive. I wish I could do that when eating my daily 2-3 cans of tuna. I wish I could do that when anyone eats tuna - that crap stinks to high hell I must be nice to be able to ignore bad stenches without first having to catch a whiff of it.

i don't get it, i can block my sense of taste and smell yet i like the smell and taste of tuna lol, its my favourite topping for a sandwitch

The odor isn't so bad, per se'. It's just sooo overpowering that it's highly obnoxious.

Don't take it wrong but I think you are! This is awesome, and I don't think I ever heard of someone doing this before. And it could come in so handy at times! It's a shame you can't teach us...

My mom told me not to close my nose and drink cuz itll go up to your brain. that true at all? No, not at all. The worst that could happen is you get some in your sinus cavities. Even that is no big deal. And, besides, stuff goes down towards your stomach when you swallow, not up towards your scalp

I was wondering if anyone else could do this. I think of it as a flap in my upper throat area. Kind of behind my nose. I can close this flap at will. I found this post on google. I had just Googled to see if it was something that alot of people can do. But I know my husband and kids cant. It came in very handy when I worked as a cna in the nursing homes. Lol. For the longest time I thought everyone could do this lol. I'm going to be doing some more research on this to see if there are others that can do this too

Afraid to post in this topic kinda but I can block smell I guess. I think I'm focused on other stuff too much I don't think to smell sometimes... But when I am open to smelling it kinda overpowers my sense of smell...
