Thread: Whats your favorite movie?

my favourite movies:

- Hero (the one w/ Dustin Hoffman; NOT Jet Li)
- Awakenings
- The Postman (heh heh heh...yes, i love this movie)


anyone else feel like the right 'favourite' movie can help better define one's self, or perhaps, help better convey to someone else just who one is? i used to pick my favourite movies based on how they made me laugh, or how exciting they were, or their special effects, or the stars in them, etc. etc. now it seems i don't 'pick' my favourite movies...

oh, i also really enjoyed "What Dreams May Come." anyone, btw, notice the shadow of the camera operator cast upon the overpass as the scene zooms in to the inital car accident?

Good choice in films

I didn’t notice the camera operator in that scene (have to look out for it when i watch it again).

Awakenings is a classic movie, De Niro and Robins are fantastic acting together, its like they mirror each others performance...... I also agree with The Postman, i thought it had a great atmosphere that not many films have. Why do people feel its a guilty pleasure to say the Postman and Waterworld were actually good films? (lol).

I agree with this, over the years your favorite movies change to how you change, its like your 'favorite' movies 'pick you'. Finding an emotional connection with a movie is much more powerful than watching it for the special effects, stars, excitement etc

Its like it resonates inside you and makes you think about life and give you passion (I've studied film or 5 years it feels like its in my blood, my fav movies are part of me).

Its like when you go shopping and see what people have in their baskets, favorite movies can define a persons attitude and/or personality to life.

- Dawn of the Dead *Fantastic movie that never loses its edge.
- Woodstock - The Directors Cut * Best music docu in the history of music docu's.
- Once Upon A Time In The West * Pure poetry in motion.
- Waking Life *The film that still makes me think everytime i watch it.

i think i saw that woodstock movie on VH1 classic or something yesturday! man stoners rule. something like woodstock is only possible when the message is love and peace. like that sorry excuse for a woodstock they had in 99 i think it was, turned into chaos and riots. thats what you get when the message is hate and destruction, but that is the generation we live in

Some great music was played during that weekend.

I used to love getting 'stoned' with my friend Raffi while at Uni and we used to watch Woodstock.

I actually spend more time on the internet than I do watching movies, but these are a few of my favs

Whee! You're not alone, icedawg. I'm a huge Post-Apoc fan myself, and The Postman was an excellent post-apoc movie, in my opinion. My father loves the movie too, but mostly for the patriotic side of it.

Out of the Jurrassic Park movies, I guess I liked the third one most. I'm not a huge action/thriller fan.

My favorite movies include (in no particular order):
Army of Darkness -- I love Bruce Campbell, and this movie (despite being low budget) was excellent otherwise. Ash definitely goes through a very humbling change in this movie. Instead of simply trying to survive himself, he has to help a large group of others survive the Deadites.
Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn -- Just a fun movie in general. Better than the first, and quite a bit better quality; special effects, acting, etc. I love the part with Ash dancing with all the furniture, as he slowly goes mad.
The Postman -- Great post apocalyptic fun. It's simply beautiful how the human race copes with major disasters such as nuclear war.
Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, and Land of the Dead -- A simply wonderful series. While the setting is just downright silly (walking corpses that feast on human flesh ), the way George Romero depicts people banding together to survive is another beautiful aspect of the human race.

There are plenty others, but these are probably my top favorites

Difficult question. Depends on mood.

All of these are equally great, in my eyes, but are all VERY different:

Rain Man (Hoffman as Raymond was the best performance seen on the big screen bar none, I feel)

Terminator 2: Judgement Day or Total Recall (Both enjoyable for obvious reasons)

Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory (best kid's film (and I'm 18!), revision looks way too serious)

Shawshank Redemption (can anyone argue with this films quality?)[/list]

I sure can't....I've loved that movie ever since I saw it's first preview.

Plus, I enjoy just about anything Morgan Freeman is in.

For sure; I totally agree. It seems often that the movies I really enjoy--that I look forward to watching again--are the ones where I feel somehow pulled into the story...like I become more than just tepidly interested in what happens to a main character, or whether or not the villain is adequately requited in the end, etc. Those movies always resonate emotionally much more, leaving a greater lasting impression.

But then there's just movies that are a lot of fun, like I really enjoyed Wedding Crashers, although I didn't think I would. Plus, Rachel McAdams stars in it (a *Canadian!*) and she was born and used to live 2 hours away from me!

In no paticular order:

Requiem For A Dream- Excellent drama
Office Space- Hilarious office comedy
Saving Private Ryan- Great WWII movie
Platoon- Classic Vietnam movie
Full Metal Jacket- another classic vietnam movie

pulp fiction - for the shooting and drugs and stuff

fight club - is just cool

the blues brothers - NOT the 2000 sequel which sucked ASS their was no brothers without jake. how can you have the blues brothers with only one blues brother?

These are just two great films that I've been considering re-watching lately.

The Land Before Time (1988) I've never even bothered with the sequels. I think this was Don Bluth's crowning achievement. This film has masterful animation, rich characters, and sincere emotion.

Raiders of the Lost Ark: It was just a great adventure with an intriguing story regardless of the sequels it generated.

I guess my favorite movie of all time is Donnie Darko cos it just messed my mind up with the weirdness. And that giant evil bunny is just wrong.

Rushmore and Brassed Off! were great movies.

As were Moulin Rouge and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Enough singing and show tunes for everyone.

i have so many favorite movies but i will try to keep is to a minimum.

American History X : the way this movie shows you the many sides of a certain way-of-thinking is just amazing. It could possible change your out look on life.

The Crow : nothing needs to be said here.

Bruce Almighty : very powerful message in all the humor -
(Bruce, " how do you get somebody to love you without affecting free will?"
God, " when you find the answer to that one, you let me know!")

A Walk to Remember : im a grown man and it still makes me cry.
