      Your Real Life

I'm just curious about what people are like outside the forum . . .

I'm 22 years old (23 in about 2 months). I work for Utah State University Press as a typesetter, page/layout designer, and production guy. I recently graduated from Utah State University with a bachelor's in Philosophy. I will probably go to grad school in the future, but right now I'm enjoying my time out of school! When I'm not at work, I'm probably either reading a book, watching a movie, or playing a computer game.

Anyway, just post whatever you want about yourself and your real life.

I am 23...24 in about 3 months. I just recently (about 4 months ago) moved to the Milwaukee, WI area. I currently work for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. I do the car ads for the dealerships. Other than that, I live alone...with two cats...Nelly and Dante. I travel back to my home town often. I am also an artist....mostly painting, but also drawing. Ummmm, that's all I can think of right now.

Hey, great idea for a topic.

I'm 23 and just moved to Miami Beach a little over a month ago from Ohio. I spend my days, laying out by the pool, laying out on the beach, yachting, exploring, shopping, learning new things (I learned how to skateboard a few days ago and I'm learning to surf and kite board), finding jobs, swimming, deep sea fishing, enjoying the view, hanging with my sister (who I live with), etc. I have a degree in Digital Design from U of Cincinnati and I am doing some freelance design work for a few companies including promotional evites for some of the biggest clubs in South Beach. I'm also bartending and cocktailing at a new lounge that just opened. So I spend my nights either working, hanging out at bars/clubs, or hanging in with the very few friends I've managed to make here so far. I'm only here for 6 months, after which I plan on moving far far away. Perhaps Thailand

And yes. I am on a 6 month vacation. Whatever I deserve it.

22 year old introverted vegetarian anarchist from BC Canada.

currently laid off from a construction job, and looking into some career options. i'm seriously considering getting my BSN in nursing, because that profession is experiencing a growing shortage, and i could essentially choose any place in the world to live/work. i'd love to work with doctors without borders for awhile. if not, a degree in journalism or psychology is likely.

i spend most of my free time reading, playing piano/guitar, and hiking/camping. i plan to complete my skydiving certification when spring arrives(2 jumps under my belt), and hitchhike across canada this summer.

I'm 17, will be 18 in March. I live in Southern California I'm almost done with high school, luckly I am going from 5 to only 4 classes in two weeks when next semester begins (so I'll only have to be there 7:45am-12:06pm for the rest of the school year, sweeeet).

Right now I work at Baskin Robbins and the occasional babysitting job. In the next couple weeks I hope to work more hours and do more fun activities due to my new reduced school schedule.

When I'm not working or at school, I am usually at the mall, watching a movie, sleeping, on my computer, juggling, reading a good book, or with my boyfriend (who will be graduating in 2 weeks and is possibly moving 1.5 hours away, no big deal though, we both have cars).

During the summer I like to go to the beach and travel to other countries. This coming fall I'll like to go to college (I will find out which colleges I have been accepted to in March). I'm thinking about a college up in Northern California, but I don't know yet. We'll see what happens in March.

My name is Jono and I'm 19, soon to be 20 in March (Holy crap it looks worse written down than just saying I'm gonna be 20). I live in New Zealand (see flag) and at the moment I'm enjoying the summer. 8) I live in Nelson, which gets the most hours of sun in the country per year.

This year is going to be my final year (assuming I don't fail any papers) of my BA in Philosophy, and I'm really looking forward to it. Pretty much this degree means I have no idea what I want to end up doing, but I'm OK with that for now.

I love laughing and making people laugh, and I love to just chill out with a few beers with friends and listen to music. Been awesome catching up with all the crew I haven't seen for most of the year.
I love listening to music, reading (although I don't really do much of that), gaming, TV, Movies, Funny stuff, being lazy. Oh, and beer is also good.
I'm pretty laid back really, try not to let anything get to me too much. I can't really be bothered spending my time getting angry at stuff, so I just let things sorta happen.

Ah, that's all I can really think of at the moment, so I guess that's me in a nutshell.

To R.Carter: Ooooooooh, birthday on Friday the 13th. Spooky. Oooooooooh. Happy birthday dude!

First off...Happy B-Day Dan the Man! <ahh the Dirty Thirty Club>

I'm a 32 yr. old designer, working for my local govt. here in eastern VA (Yorktown). I also work about 3 days a week as a fitness trainer with Ballys...been doing that for about 2 years now, but it's more of a hobby than a job.

Went into the Army right after hs and served 6 years. Graduated NC State with a Bachelors in Digital Media, then moved to Chicago for a couple of years.

My free time is spent shooting pool, playing poker (both online and live games) and drinking. I also love sushi and chocolate chip cookies (but not at once).

I'm a bit kinky, w/some of my fetishes being swinging, group sex, gangbangs and just about anything involving asians. ~

hey! me too! (except i just finished mine.) but i also have no idea what i want to end up doing! reminds me of a joke...

what's the question most asked by philosophy majors?
      "want fries with that?"

      happy (late) birthday, R.Carter!

InTheMoment, i'm just curious - what kind of designing do you do? i work for a scholarly press and do quite a bit of page design, with a little bit of cover design, although my main job is typesetting and production.

Mostly graphics...e.g. brochures, flyers, newsletters and monthly publications. I don't get many opportunities to do web related design, with the exception of some minor liberties they allow me on our "intra"net site. I basicallly just maintain and update the county's internet and intranet site as needed.

I love doing layouts though and I also find typesetting quite enjoyable. I love my current job, I just wish they paid more. My previous job (in Chicago) was more similiar to what you do. We produced promotional displays and brochures for a couple of major real estate companies...I really loved that job also.

I've noticed there are quite a bit of designers here at DV. Maybe we could put all of our resources together and develop a Lucid Dreaming magazine. ~

      that would be fun!

i also rather enjoy the typesetting aspects of my job. before i got hired on full-time as the production guy, i worked about 25 hours a week, with probably 95% of my job being typesetting. i've never really done any web design, though, and only a small amount of graphic/cover design.

With all the positive responses, I did a little brainstorming over lunch. I think we have enough members with the necessary skills to cover most of what would be needed. I don't think we would have a problem at all coming up with content on a bi-monthly or quarterly basis. I would've suggested a monthly release, but I think that would be biting off more than we could chew.

Another hurdle would be getting the funds to run the initial print.
