Yes. From What I have heard, the Government is not involved in anyway.

Yeah, funny that. I've heard the same thing.

That seem like a very prevalent dream sign for many people. I have had many as well. More when I was a teenager. They used to be nightmares.

Hey superior dude! I have heard one. Back when I was a kid. My friends parents made us get down in the tub.
Looking back I realize they ruined my childhood--Just kidding

Who has seen an actual Tornado?

PS. I have had dreams of many.

And the thread is revived for storm season! We had a few tornadic storms around here yesterday - lots of strong low and mid-level rotation, but only one or two touchdowns, I believe. It was a bit of a disappointment, though, in terms of viewing the storms - the tornado watch-boxes had been up all day and then when do the storms finally develop? Oh yeah, after dark when you can't see anything except via the occasional flash of lightning. That's probably the system you're getting today, Howie. I wish you better luck with it chase-wise than we had here. And thanks for the free membership to Weather Underground!

As far as seeing a tornado goes, even though I've lived in Tornado Alley for over 20 years, the closest I've come was having a funnel descend 1/4 - 1/3 of the way to the ground directly above my car when I was a kid. It was pretty damn sweet to roll down the window and see the meso churning above, but I've never actually seen a fully-formed tornado. Hopefully I will this season though. I'm taking my ham tech license test on Saturday!

We had some pretty strong thunderstorms this morning, and heavy rain. But now it's sunny and warm (very strange for us this time of year). But tomorrow it's supposed to snow!

I've been a weather-nerd from way back. I did many presentations at school that was weather-related. Has anyone else made those homemade barometers from an empty coffee can, balloon, and straw??

The future of forecasting

I finally dug up that article about the super computer that is designed to predict a phenomenal amount of variables in an attempt to predict or forecast the future path of the earths climate.
Here are some amazing facts;
NCEP = National Centers for Environmental Prediction
Their computer is not fully up to speed currently. By 2009 it will handle 8.6 trillion calculations -15,000 years work with a hand held calculator -> In one second!

It is in Gaitherburg, Maryland. The computer's name is Blue - (What's up with computers and blue? Wasn't the Chess computer called deep Blue?)

To put the complexity of the real atmosphere into perspective this computer still uses simplified models. Tracking conditions only tens of miles apart.

Amazing amounts of rain.

I live in Ohio close to lake Erie. We have had unprecedented amounts of rain that has accompanied very high dew points and humidity & temp. It is tropical.
But Thursday the the 27th of July (which would normally be in the beginning of our dry spell) dropped an amazing 9.75 inches of rain in one day.
The grand river and it's surrounding are gone. _Along with my friends boat

Before the storm I had already measured on my weather gauge 9.35" of rain for the month. The normal is 2.97 for Cleveland.

Theres been no rain where I live for a while now, and we usually get it every couple of days. It's too damn hot here, never thought I'd honestly say that about England.

Hey Howetzer, I'm from Ohio too. I've been experiencing the same rain and humidity as you, and I have to run in it every day. Every time it rain alot I get excited cause the Cuyuhoga River gets alot of water in it and I plan to go canoeing, but then my friends always bail at the last minute. Anyway, I had a dream about tornadoes a few nights ago, and since then I have become quite interested in weather.

Its called global warming. You know, it effects the weather patterns and such. In southern California I've been experiencing oddities in the weather as well. We've recently hit new records last week for high temps, and some of these days have been overcast. Can you imagine a sky full of grey clouds and 110 degree weather at the same time? Very bizarre...

I find it ironic that we run air conditioners and coolers to ward against the effects of heat in our homes and automobiles, when at the same time it contributes to the global warming issue. Ultimately, in trying to save ourselves, we will destroy ourselves. Too bad world leaders are still stupid enough to keep fighting over petrol when we could have had energy solutions by now.

Hey captain ahab!!!!!!!!!& #33;!
Judging by the long. & lat. You must be pretty close to me.
There are a few other members and we have managed to meet up. I am located in the suburbs of Cleveland.

Talk about Temperature.. Power outages in Chardon because of electricity usage.
106 Heat index today.
I have been in regions that reach in the 100 degrees before and I am still adimate that high humidity & dew pints make for a more uncomfortable environment than does just the mean temp.
This sucks....in part because I work outside too!

Ten years ago toady in Chardon, Ohio and local vicinities (my first season of snow plowing ) We had received 61" of snow - Yes sixty one inches of snow, over a four day period.

That sucked ass.

Cool another Ohian!

I love canoeing. It does put a damper on things when the water is so murky due to all the rain.
Plus it is damn hard to paddle up stream.

Hey there kungfurabbits. I have not seen you around in awhile.
Peregrinus is also in this field of study. She was accepted into Penn State University. She is an intelligent one, >I am hoping on her to figure out this global warming debacle. So I can have kids. ?!

How are your courses? I have taken some online meteorology courses just for self interest. I have always wondered how in depth and detailed an actual degree must become.
Well good luck.

Speaking of the weather, once I had a dream that it was an absolute downpour (at 11pm) and when I woke up at 4:00am it wasn't raining. But at 7:00am it was pouring as hard as I had dreamt.

So.... any ideas?

Well maybe you forecasted the future!? Maybe by some way of clairvoyance or remote viewing.
I think either way your forecasting would result in as an effective and as accurate forecast as a weathermans.

Hmmm. I never listen to the weatherman. I find they're usually wrong, so I think I should listen to my dreams instead.

Well I talked to Perengrinus the other night and she told me she ended up going to Purdue instead of Penn State.

Since I'm just a freshman, I've only taken 1 Meteorology course so far and it's ok. I didn't do awesome on my first midterm and my professor (who is a guy from the weather channel) intentionally makes his tests very difficult.

I've done so many reports on global warming in multiple classes of mine that I'm absolutely sick of it. lol.

Back in the day, when I was living long periods of time in a tent, I would have endless false awakenings on many mornings. They were always the same. Wake up to rain falling on the tent, sometimes light, sometimes heavy, mostly just steady rain. Not want to get up and pack up a wet tent and bike in the cold rain. Open my eyes to a beautiful sunny morning. Close my eyes for a little more sleep, wake up a few minutes later to the rain again. Open my eyes, "Hey, it's still sunny out!" Repeat endlessly.

Too bad I wasn't aware of lucid dreaming then, it would have been a great dreamsign! Now I live in a rainforest, so I think nothing of packing up a tent on a rainy morning. Well, I take that back, it's still much nicer to pack up a dry tent.
The new evolutionary paradigm will give us the human traits of truth, of loyalty, of justice, of freedom. These will be the manifestations of the new evolution. And that is what we would hope to see from this. That would be nice.

Good old Lake affect snow!
Living in the snow belt and snowplowing for a living, makes for a good job security.

the primary snow belt is calling for 12" to 18" in the next thirty six hours.
I don't think I will be getting much <strike>sleep.</strike>

Off to go plowing.
