As for what this actually is, it's a tatic that someone called "Google Bombing". If I make a link to miserable failure Michael Moore, Google will pick that up and add more priority to Michael Moore's website for the term "miserable failure". It needs quite a lot of people on different websites (i.e. probably thousands) to make a visible difference.

For more obscure phrases like "hot muppet sex involving big bird" you will find it easier to push a site to the top of the ranking, thus providing hours of entertainment when you show your friend that punching the words "idiot who uses a blog to bitch all day long" into Google comes up with his Myspace.
