Censorship as a whole is getting on my nerve. On many cable TV stations, when someone says the word "goddamnit", they bleep the "god" part and keep damnit. The same with the word asshole. And i hate how they black out or distort the middle finger, like you dont know what the character is doing.

Has it ever been proven that curse words can damage somebodys mental health, or has seeing a titty on TV been proven to reek havoc in a childs brain. If we tell children that a titty is not a bad thing, then it wont be seen as taboo.

Tell me your thoughts about our morals and if they are warped.

I sure as hell think they are.

One more thing about the world trade center towers. I have witnessed first hand how movies on TV have been edited to remove the image of the world trade center, because "its too emotional". Movies cant depict the image but the news channels can show them getting blown up every second of every day for a month! Isnt that hipocracy? I dont know about you, but i would rather see the towers standing than see them blown up.

Thoughts?

I don't think there should be any censorship. My thoughts are if you don't like, don't watch.

True, everybody is accountable for themselves and it is your choice is something you see damages you (unless its seeing someone get murdered or raped)

I agree, censorship is pointless. Anything being left uncensored can't hurt anyone.

As for swearing and other stuff on kids tv, what are you going to do? sugarcoat the whole world for kids until they are 21? In the end, what harm can it really do except teach them what is real and prepare them for the real world.

If its something like that, I think people should still have a choice to watch it, but at a later time in the day incase some little kid puts the Tv on and see's it.
I think the news should be censored slightly like with the war in Iraq e.g it showed dead bodies. I mean some people want to know whats going on but I think they should show that later or atleast have a warning that its going to come on.

Censorship is silly. If i see someone walking naked in the streets, i won't cover them up, afraid of what i would see, i already know what i will see. If someone swears, i won't cover my ears, it's just silly, i already know they sweared, what's the point? It's meaningless.

Well, i could swear, i knew what was under peoples clothes and how people was born since i was four, and i turned out okay, atleast in my opinion.

I grew up on Die Hard and Lethal Weapon since I was four, and I'm not sat in a mental hospital wriggling around on the floor in a straight jacket. Censorship just hides reality from people. It hides something that people already know is there.

Ok, you can pm me with questions. Although I should warn you that I think I fell asleep on my first successful WILD and had a DILD instead, but thought it was a WILD. So that's 3 failed attempts. I'd change my signiture but...uh...you know.

I think sometimes censorship is a case of political correctness gone wrong.
as someone said, if you don't like, don't watch...
although i do uphold the statement that if something really awful has to be shown, it should be shown post watershed, so that younger minds don't have to see it.
it's not so much about exposure to something its about whether someone is mature enough to handle it.
Although saying that, Tom bashes Jerry over the head with a frying pan in every episode, and that's aimed at kids....
so who needs censorship?
I watched a documentary on 9/11 the other night, and it was on pre watershed.
There was a lot of swearing and cursing, it showed quite harrowing images of the firemen who were in the building trying to rescue people.
If something is put on at that time, then parents are the censors, not the tv companies.
And in this country when something that could be distressing is about to come on the news, the newscaster says 'you may find some scenes distressing'.
that gives you the opportunity to watch, or switch off.

try to go back and make them last.'

For me those warnings beforehand just make me want to watch it more.

"warning: this program contains nudity and adult situations, viewer discression is advised"

-sweet!!!!

"warning: this program contains graphic, dramatic reenactments of WW2 battles, viewer discression is advised"

Now, this reminds me, in the MTV VMA thing recently, Panic! At The Disco were singing "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" (really badly.)

If you watch a clip of it, first off be very careful with your ears and second off watch where the lyrics should say "whore." The lead singer bloke covers his mouth with his hand and sings nothing, whilst most the audience shouts "WHORE!"

Censorship gone wrong. Thought it was hilarious myself.

Censorship just hides reality from people.[/b]
Which is not, in its enterity, a bad thing. I wouldn't sit a five year old down to watch Billy Kills Everyone With A Chainsaw, for example. Sometimes when I'm feeling more romantic I like to think that children should be protected from the fact there's bad people out there and be allowed to live, at least for a while, their life without worries. But that's dangerous on another level, so nah.

Kaniaz, are you sure you're not related to me?

Anyway, there's a difference between censorship and discretion. Censorship involves removing what is already in existence. Discretion, on the other hand, involves thinking before one adds something into whatever the medium might be.

Some people may think I'm overly sensitive, but there are a couple reasons behind why I don't approve of several things (besides my religious views). Not to offend anyone, but to me swearing shows a lack of taste, a lack of vocabulary, a lack of control, and a lack of respect for those around you.

Case in point, I was standing in an elevator and there were two guys around my age in there as well. They were having their casual conversation, explitives included, but as usual I said nothing. A floor up, the elevator opens and two older women walk onto the elevator. The foul language stops. Now, why would they stop then? Did they assume that I spoke the same way as they and therefore continued on as normal? I'll never know, but I can speculate. I find it rude, especially when curse words are treated as any other; merely a noun, adverb, adjective, or verb.

As for "adult themes," I don't think that kids need to be exposed to that. Tom and Jerry is not the same as Saw. In Tom and Jerry, there is no blood, the characters aren't actually harmed, and they usually spring back up after a short time. If we're talking sex, I say let the kids retain their innocence as long as possible. They don't need to know about that stuff when they're five years old! Not to mention that kids are notoriously curious.

I could continue, but I'll leave it at this.

"If there was one thing the lucid dreaming ninja writer could not stand, it was used car salesmen."
