Well, around here, unfiltered water that comes out of the tap is usually rather, er... opaque. To me, regular bottled water is well worth the price. But jeweled bottles?

I suspect soon they will be selling bottled air. Fresh from the Troposphere, clean of all free radicals. Refreshing three breaths in one bottle. Only $2.50.

Don't breathe if you are pregnant or nursing. Hazardous fluorocarbons and radon elements are known to exist at certain levels of our atmosphere.

Actually, they already have "oxygen bars".

It's not bottled air, but it's close!

We have yucky well water so we buy cases of Ice Mountain. I even give the cats bottled water in their fountain - shhh, don't tell my hubby!

Cats can taste water more than people so I figure if I don't like the well water, the cats wouldn't either. There I go being the Crazy Cat lady again.

Nah, you have to be ugly, have grey hair, at least one wart, and wear grubby rags to be qualified as a local Crazy Cat Lady. Sorry, Burns, but you just don't cut it. You'll have to remain a Hot Cat Doctor. Oh well...

I hate the taste of the tap water up in Logan, so I just bought a cheap $15 water filter. It's $5 to replace the filter, which I do once a month, but the water tastes SO much better and is pretty clean (it's a DuPont filter, and they make quality stuff). We keep empty bottles around and pour the filtered water into them when we need to take it somewhere (like soccer games twice a week). MUCH cheaper.

Hmmm.... this assertion got me curious, so I did a quick Google. The first result I found included this quote: "Compared to humans, the cat's sense of taste is weak. We have 9,000 taste buds, while they have only 473." I don't really know how reliable that source is, but it looks like a fairly authoritative site. But, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't post something like that, Burns, unless you had a reliable source as well. Care to fill us in on why you believe it to be true?

A good portion of "taste" is smell, I suppose. You try holding your nose next time you eat something, and see how different it tastes. Now, while cats may not have as good a sense of "taste" as humans, they sure have a better sense of smell... so... perhaps they can SMELL the difference in water?

That would make perfect sense, and I'm well aware of the connection between smell and taste. However, Burns specifically said "taste", so I'm just curious if there is some basis in that, or if she just really meant to say that they are more sensitive to the smell.

I am sick of you people that act like saying the USA is crazy means that every single person in it is crazy. It has nothing to do with induviduals. America is just the only nation stupid/crazy enough to actually have a market for bling-bling-water. Might be only 0.05% that buys it, but that doesn't change a fact that america it. Both the products and the idiots buying it.

I'll probably end up as a crazy cat lady.... not crazy cat lady, but just take the words apart and that'll be me some day

And last night I had a dream that I took my cat to the vet for some reason and the cat doctor started telling me about lucid dreams. She kept talking but I wanted to tell her I was a moderator at an LDing forum, but I didn't get a chance. Then she had me lay back on this table with an odd head-rest and was going to have me sleep and go right into an LD.... but my stupid brand-new alarm clock woke me up!

Curse you alarm clocks and your poor sense of timing!

(But it's a nice alarm clock. CD player and all&#33

I am sick of you people that act like saying the USA is crazy means that every single person in it is crazy. It has nothing to do with induviduals. [/b]
The problem that I have with generalizing is that when people say something about America, it's not always their words but also their mindset. When I hear that Americans are stupid for some specific reason, then when someone says that they are American, then that stereotype of "stupid" (for whatever reason it was) comes to the non-American's mind. Example:

Person 1: *thinks* Americans are silly for buying jeweled bottled water.
Person 1: Hey! Where are you from?
Person 2: I'm from the US.
Person 1: *thinks* You're silly for buying jeweled bottled water.
Person 1: It's nice to meet you.

It's the same principle as the thought that all Islamics are terrorists. They're not, obviously, but people who over-generalize may come to that conclusion and act accordingly.

I think it just comes down to that fact that it's "the thing to do" if you're non-American (U.S.) to be contemptuous of Americans. You could be the dirtiest, filthiest, uneducated, piece-of-trash dirtbag--from, say, Europe--but automatically that person believes himself better than the "Stupid Americans".

Oh wait, I'm generalizing, aren't I?

Sounds familar.

Sorry if I generalized too much, which I did...
My point is that I think it's pathetic that there is a market for ANYTHING like this in the US. NOT THE US AS A WHOLE! However, there ARE people out there that would buy this, and chances are it wouldn't take long to find one. This pseudo-gangsterism fad is EVERYWHERE. It's driving me insane!

So, to set the record straight:
I DO NOT THINK THAT THE US AS A WHOLE IS STUPID ENOUGH TO BUY THIS!
But I think it's sad that there's a market for it at all.
