How did you choose your screen name?

I first came here looking for information and interesting conversations about lucid dreaming. I had spent so much time arguing politics with rabidly shrill balls of hatred who only understand hostility and insults, and I came here for a place to chill out and talk about really far out things with people who would be wanting to get along and do the same. I chose "Universal Mind" because that is an Eastern concept that has fascinated me for a while. It refers to the single consciousness that all individual forms of consciousness are manifestations of. In a broader sense, it is the consciousness of existence itself. I thought such a name would be appropriate for conversations about consciousness and theories on what consciousness is and what its possibilities are. Interestingly, although I am getting more into lucid dreaming than ever, I feel like I have learned the meat of what I came here to learn, so I spend most of my time here in the philosophy and religion/spirituality forums arguing with jerky people and making fun of them for being ridiculous assholes. At this point, it seems like I might as well change my screen name to "Screw you, you evasive and hypocritical liar!" and make my sig line something that makes fun of Jesus. I am not on the road I started out on here. It's kind of like drug addicts who go to rehab and end up with nothing but more connections.

Some forums are more toughly debated.
On the contrary, the research forum is (too) quite and I think that in that forum there is the opportunity to discuss about lucid dreaming in a calm and "scientific" way. Not in the sense that spiritual or philosophical views are discarded, but in the sense that one is pushed to think on how to prove what s/he saying and ideas are debated, not persons.

I agree that most people just prefer to hang around and talk about topics which are totally unrelated with dreams (I often put myself in this category too...), but I think it's normal for large communities.

By the way, I'm going far from the topic about screen name choice (confirming what I'm saying)

I broke up with an abusive boyfriend that I had been living with for years... I was starting a new life for myself and rediscovering who I am and what I want... and I needed a new name for my online journal.

Akasha Aurora means "Dawn of the Spirt" (or "spirit dawn" if you wanna do a litteral translation) which is exacly where I am right now. My spirit/true self is starting a new day and therefore has unlimited choices/possibilities before it/me.

I just realized how this idea I've had for months now does NOT translate well into proper/coherant sentance structure. I think you'll know what I mean though.

Originally chosen because it's the name of an Ozma song but also I spent the better half of 10 years playing nintendo, so it still fits.

My real name is Wessel (perfect rhyme with vessel), and I used to be a big fan of the I.M. Weasel TV series. So, on the internet I called myself Weasel (due to the similarities with my own name of course), which after a short while changed into it's Dutch equivalent Wezel (way·zull)

Kafine is my all the time nickname, not just for the internet. It came out of my real name, Katherine, due to a freind lisping her THs... or something. I can't really remember exactly how it mutated from there, it was back in 1998.

I get asked a lot if it's something to do with caffeine. It isn't.

I dont exactly remember how mine came about, but I can remember coming up with it for the AlienAdoptionAgency, which was the coolest thing back in fourth grade.

Could never think of anything better, so Hotshot it has been.

Well.... I have a band. So, being as we couldn't come up with a name, we decided to start throwing random words together. First off, I just flipped the dictionary open, found Exposition ( Which is usually the beginning into something, usually a part in music) And at the time I was playing a game and the level I was on had the word Forsaken. So, Im a "Beggining which should not have been...."

I responded...a vex kitten maybe...but sex kitten...no way.

I thought it sounded kind of cute...so decided i'd use it next time I needed a user name.

Randolph Carter is a recurring character in the works of H.P. Lovecraft.
The anthology " The Dream Cycle of H.P. Lovecraft " has some of my favorite stories.
Check out "The Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath". I like his style; very detailed.

RandomThought is actually a nick name...me and my friends were driving around ...and i always come up with these random things to do from just sitting around and thinking...one day i said dude...lets walk around in cardbaord boxes....my friend josh said..."Dude! your such a RandomThoughT!" theres me name now...but the name that everyone calles me is "kNives" cause so happenly i accidently stabbed my self with a throwing dagger..don't ask..but it is a funny storie,lol...and as for the reaper thing...i love the reaper

I''m a singer. My stage name is Katerina. There is an opera called Suor Angelica which means Sister Angelica about a Nun. I'm Italian(American) and so is the opera and I like to think that all people are brothers and sisters, that we are all connected. So I'm sister Katerina.

Cara means "beloved" in Italian, and "friend" in Irish... and "Thanatos" is Greek for death.

So, It either means beloved of death or friend of death... I like the former. ^-^

I always look up the etymology of things and turn it into a name. ^_^ <3 etymology!!beh

WOW. That bites. I'd been writing a long reply after I noticed I hadn't posted here yet, and I totally just deleted the whole thing on accident.

I really don't feel like typing it ALL out again, so here's the short version.

When I was a not-so-mentally-stable teenager (like we all are at some point) I had a minor brush with both MPD (Multiple personality disorder) and schizophrenia. More schizo than MPD, but MPD's the one that the name came from. Either way, I got over all that a few years ago.

Basically, I had two personalities, which I'd named Seru and Tsenru. Seru was the dominant one, and sort of a jackass. Basically, Seru was the antisocial bit of me. The name Seru came from a lot of random letters I'd written, and I sort of took a liking to it. I was really obsessed with the originality of it for a while, and when I found out Seru was already used as a name for a video game character, I was sort of devastated. A while later, I got out of the depressed-teenager bit and decided to adopt the nickname Tsenru, the more social and likeable part of me, to remind me of how I'd left the old me behind. I dropped the -ru suffix, though, since in the height of my mental instability I'd decided that the -ru's on the end of my nicknames denoted royalty or power or something, and I found that part of me really creepy afterwards, so I got rid of the -ru to further remind me that I'm leaving that all behind. I still use Tsenru every once in a while as a screen name, mostly when Tsen's already taken (Apparently it's a Korean name that's moderately common), or when there's a minimum character limit higher than 4.

Therefore, we wind up with Tsen. Pronunciation is like Blitzen, without the "Bli" or like Zen with a harder syllable out front.

well, I was at the create a profile thingy and I had to put in a name I thought of a bunch of sh---not so good ones. After a while I settled on Ledzeppelin. There was never any incedint of any misspelling of my name ever. Honest.

Well, when I got an email adress a few years ago, it was Lillihawk (short version of my name).

Then I watched the fifth element with my friend a few months later.

And a few more months later, the name stuck. Also, I dyed my hair red.

'Sbeen 3 years now. Yep.

Though I think I prefer Lillihawk now. Maybe in a few MORE months I'll PM Seeker. Then vow
never to ask for a nickname change ever again.
