i went on a diet to lose some fat. the diet was reducing portions, not eating after 6:00, little or no sweets. when i started, i was 52.9 kg. iin the next week i stayed the same or lst a little. then i got sick, and lost some weight, became 51.9. that was a week. now, a week later, i am 51.1. is that losing weight too fast? why so fast?

      I can tell you why...

My guess here is (it's really hard to assume all of this, especially when I don't know WHAT you were eating and how much).

      that you lost little fat
      you lost some muscle
and you lost MAINLY water weight. That is to say, you are probably dehydrated now. Your body weight can fluctuate about 5 pounds, I believe, from water weight. And that's just, normal. However, if you were sick and depending on how much you drank, you likely just dehydrated yourself.

      Here's my suggestion:
Don't have the only aspect of your weight loss program being really restrictive eating. Why?
      1. You will lose mostly muscle
      2. You will very quickly gain weight back when you are "done with" your diet.
      3. The weight you gain back will be fat, which is called "yo-yo dieting." You "starve" yourself, lose a lot of weight which is all muscle, then gain back more weight, but in fat.
Don't be too restrictive with your eating
      1. Have at least 6 times where you eat during the day. Our body naturally controls our diet (most people just don't listen to it). So eat when you are HUNGRY. You should have a bunch of good snacks throughout the day
Instead of having a diet focused on restrictive eating, have it on eating reasonable amounts of the RIGHT foods. Cut out foods like ice cream, candy, and basically any foods which aren't nutrient dense. Go to whfoods.com and see their list of healthy foods for some ideas.
      EXERCISE
      1. Weight training. This is so you don't lose muscle and become really scrawny and skinny when you are done losing weight
      2. Cardio - Either run for 20 minutes per day or start by walking briskly.

Sure, you might lose a lot of weight by having a really controlled diet. But it will be mostly muscle, and you will not be able to stay fit unless you have a PRACTICAL program which you can go on and enjoy for the rest of your life.

That's a lot of weight to lose in the short amount of time. Couldn't tell you why it's happening, but maybe it's time to get off the diet! :]

When you diet the first thing to happen is you loose water weight, and you loose it FAST. Your weight will probably go back up a little bit before starting to slowly go down.

Diets don't work for a long term because once your body realizes that you are dieting it will slow it's metabolism down to stabilize your weight and you will stop losing weight. The only way to lose weight in the long term is to boost your metabolism. Excercise. It doesn't have to be crazy, maybe two or three miles a day at a comfortable jog and two days a week of rest.

Are you sure you are in need of losing weight? 52kgs is very light for a male. How tall and old are you?

Sure, if I ask an anorexic I have a feeling what answer I'll get. But then again, asking a doctor or nutritionist...

Would you care to elaborate on that?

Regardless, I still think that people should do what doctors say is the healthy choice, even if you believe that they are overrated or corrupt.

Eating smaller portions and not eating after 6 is not the greatest diet. You're still eating all the same crap you used to eat, just less of it (including less healthy stuff). What you really need to do is, instead of eating 3 meals a day, go for 5-6 smaller portions. You want to stabilize your body's intake. Minimizing metabolism fluctuations is good, and it turns out that, calorie-for-calorie, you can eat MORE during the day than you did before, because your body is burning fuel more efficiently. Also, do exercise. You never mentioned what you do, so that might be done already, but yeah. It's just as important as a healthy diet.

Finally, while it's good to reduce calorie intake if you're getting fatter, it's not healthy to reduce it a LOT, because then your body goes into starvation mode, and your weight-loss goes to hell. If you're cutting majorly, you should have a cheat meal every once in a while, to make sure your body doesn't think you're starving.

A diet is usually a temporary thing which can be hard to keep up over long duration. Only one thing will really free you from your pudgy armour..and that one thing is exercise! This is one of the fat burners which has been used for thousands of years because it evidently works.

If you’re fat, don't say "Oh, but it's not my fault" (because IT IS ) just dive into your shoes and run it off. This will also increase the definition/tone of your leg muscles (which means you will have something to show off instead of having muscular atrophy, like you would after a diet).

Shurken Pete, you're wrong. In fact, YOU'RE on a "diet" right now. A diet is just the term for what you eat, our society has given it the connotation to mean cutting back on food or special eating. At least, that's one of the definitions of diet (refer to dictionary.com). A good diet is NOT hard to have over a long period of time. It's just about selection of the different foods. It's all about eating reasonable amounts of food, and not eating crap (ice cream, candy, cookies, etc.). It's not that hard to keep it up. However, as you said, exercise is vital.

Sorry, I meant one of the temporary diets, the ones which are published for short term use. Which contain rules of monday fish... tuesday rice, cottage cheese... wednesday and so on.

I can beat that, I had food poisoning once. Lost seven pounds in seven hours, took me a week to get it back up again. I threw up so much that my stomach was completely purged, I swear I could have eaten something, thrown it up, and it would have still tasted good.

Throwing up for seven hours straight is a great ab workout too. May take a couple of days for the cramps to go away...

It was actually a virus, but it was like food poisoning, so thats what I say.

I know, I love the salmonella diet. It's almost as brilliant as the Atkins diet

Uhm... what would self hypnosis be good for?

And what's your age, height and gender? It is hard to know how much you can lose healthily if you don't mention them.
