HA! Yeah, I get a few around my house. In the late summer, they're very loud. I usually see one or two a year when they come out of the ground for their metamorphosis.

Saw one poor fellow yesterday. He couldn't fly too well. As soon as he crashed, a sparrow jumped him and ate him =(

Poor guy! Imagine on your first LD if when you crashed, some monster ate you!

my fragile little mind cant take it...

I hate those damn cicadas....my cats always catch them (alive) and bring them in the house to present them to me cause they are so proud, and the damn thing goes crazy and makes the loudest obnoxious noise and its flying all over the ground, but its sure fun to watch the cats attack that shit....they love to bat it around until it can barely move anymore, then its my turn to sweep it outside.

they havent hit illinois yet for some reason, ill get out my vacuum cleaner if they come near my house. illinois already got swarmed by asian lady bugs (which were brought in by some morons to get rid of a beetle that eats tree bark, or something like that) so during the fall they become really active, and they like to swarm my house in the thousands, and every year it becomes a ritual to get out a big vacuum and suck them all up. it's too much fun

The cicadas are starting to emerge... There's a walkway between my dorm and the dining hall that's covered with dead cicadas. ewie!

oh and i want to say something else about the lady bugs- when you try to kill them + they get afraid, they emit a sticky smelly orange goo that creates large stains in everything it touches, and those little flying bastards also bite! thats right... THEY BITE!

They invade Maine as well.

Yeah, we get invaded here as well. It is fun though to lay in bed on a Sunday morning and watch them crawl all over the ceiling.

On the Cicada side though: We have been having stragglers emerge all week.

They are now really starting to crank up the volume here. I hope to get out this weekend with the video camera and shoot some footage!

if i were you id take out the vacuum cleaner and practice some *cleaning*, its a lot more fun that it sounds

P.S. Are you the one that is holding one in the first video?

That's me! It is the same clip, just three different encoding methods. It is really hard to hold a video camera in one hand, rotate the other hand, and keep it all in the center when the camera and bug are only about a foot apart!

All the moderators have access to storage here =P.

That's why I will only be leaving the video up for a couple of weeks, I'm wasting a lot of storage space right now!
