Hello DV, been a while since I've been on, busy with other stuff. But, of course, I'm sure no one noticed anyway. =p

Recently I've been thinking about my future. Until a few weeks ago I didn't have any idea what-so-ever on what I really wanted to do. I'm an A student and always have been, so I could probably get any of those big jobs later on, but nope. That's not for me. The only thing I really like is music.

So, I thought about it. Other than getting in band and making it to the big time-- Slim chance, yet plan to try-- or Teaching Music formally, there's not much to be had Job-wise, I thought. But then, I had an idea. I could open my own Shop! A music shop; I could sell instruments, repair them, teach others, and have a recording studio. Sounds awesome.

Until I started talking with others about it, at least. Other than parents (Of course) everyone seems to think that I'm " Setting myself up for broke." Yet, I'm really stoked about the idea, and I can't picture myself doing anything else.

Here's where the Intelligent people of DreamViews come in. =]

      * How exactly should I go about planing this out? Like, College courses, money problems, etc.

      * Other than Huge cities(Ex: New York), does anyone know some highly musical places? Maybe if you live in one or near one. (If the place is very Rock-Oriented, that would be awesome. Everyone here is hip-hop stricken.)

      * And lastly, what are the chances of running a succesful place like that? Is it really just setting up for broke?

      Thanks for any help. =]

I can't really help you with all your questions because I am probably not one of the "Intelligent people of Dreamviews", haha. What I will say is this:

How long have you had this idea? There have been several occasions where I have been EXTREMELY excited about an idea, but a few days/weeks slowly lost interest in it. Keep this in mind when making a decision dealing with your future. I am assuming you are in high school and trying to decide where to go afterword.
Have you worked in a music store? That would be a great place to work with your interests just to see the complexities involved in running one. I would recommend trying to find a job in one and get some experience and see the "behind the scenes" stuff before you really set your mind up on it. At least go into a few and talk to the employees there; sure they will probably be partial to the shop, but you will definately get some good info.
Other than that, remember YOU have the final say. If it is really what you want to do, then by all means go out and do it! Don't stop chasing one of your attainable dreams just because other people say it can't be done.
I hope that helped even though it probably wasn't quite what you were looking for : )

      Musical places? Boston, LA, Chicago.
You'd probably have to take some small business classes in college - a lot of music college's have classes geared towards different music businesses, including running a music store. If you plan on having a studio, you'll definitely need to know some production. You can pick these classes up at either a tech college or at a nice school of music. Tech college would be cheaper and probably more efficient for what you want to do.
