argh, I hate when people say that. There were plenty of things that were scientifically "proven" even just 100 years ago that have been found to be wrong, or at least in certain situations.

The scientific method is about testing and retesting with new information. It does not mean that something is proven. In science it is always a theory, though some things are more constant than others, there is still the chance it could be beyond our current comprehension.

If you do any research into the word science and the scientific method, it states this clearly.
