I was wondering if anyone could help me out here, I have to do a project based on statistics for school, and I'm thinking of doing a comparison of record sales from different time periods in order to try and figure out just how much piracy has effected the sale of albums in recent years. Basically, I'm trying to find some websites or documents of some sort that can tell me how many records are sold per year from a certain artist or record label, so I can take a look at how bands like AC/DC, KISS, Metallica and other bands did in terms of sales in comparison to the sales of modern bands such as Airbourne, Fall Out Boy, etc. So does anyone know if theres anywheres where I can obtain this sort of information? I tried google searching it, but I couldn't really find anything helpful. |

Illegal downloading is too free. |

The issue of Wired magazine either last month or the month before had a whole article with graphs and statistics about this. |

Like piss poor music, just to name the largest. |

Honestly, if you compare the record sales of AC/DC, Metallica, and Kiss, you will find that they are way greater than fall out boy, mostly because fall out boy blows (nothing to do with illegal downloading). |

Yeah, that's all fine and dandy, but this is just a math project on statistics, its all just about the facts and numbers, it's just to test my understanding of analysis of statistics and data, so my markers aren't exactly looking for a full scale essay about all the factors that come into play about falling record sales. But I will see if I can find this article you mentioned, thanks. |

Oh no, he's about to leave without being offended! |

Don't forget to factor in legal downloading. Record companys like to blame illegal downloading for the nose dive in record sales but they never seem to take account of legal downloading from sites like iTunes. |
