One of the big influences in the civil rights movement and the peace movement:

His ideals are what made him famous, just like Janin Joplin, Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, and Phil Oches.

I don't know, great singers songwriters like her is one thing, but I can't listen to Alan Jackson or Garth Brookes sing about politics, despite how good their voices are.

The United States would be much better off with McCain than with Obama if he actually does what he says he will do.

Bob Dylan is about the best song writer of all time, but no political expert. Still, he was very influential. Janis Joplin, on the other hand, was just a good time party girl who was generally not outspoken politically like Bob Dylan and Joan Baez. I love all three of those musicians, by the way, aside from Bob Dylan's lack of singing ability. That is where Joan Baez came in handy for him. She sang his songs far better than he did. They made one of the best teams ever.

You seem to think Janis Joplin was outspoken politically. What specifically are you talking about? She might have made a few comments in some songs, but she was really just a great blues/rock singer who was loved by the hippies and who got big on the Haight-Ashbury scene. What are you thinking of, exactly?
How do you know you are not dreaming right now?

Anyway, It's true, McCain has said some promising things about what he will do, but if any of you have seen 'the real mccain' video, it shows him contradict so many things that he stated clearly. It's rather alarming.

Obama on the other hand hasn't said much about what he's going to do to make change, only that he will cause change. Which isn't much.

Remember what kind of people we're talking about here.

If you believe that McCain or Obama will keep their campaign promises in office, I've got a bridge to sell you.

But in case you have something else to throw in there, it is her voice that I love and that made her famous, not her political beliefs. What she thinks about politics means about as much to me as what the inside linebacker for the New York Giants thinks about politics. I wish celebrities would understand what they are good at and what they are not. Every time I hear Sean Penn babble out of his ass, I feel like showing him a video of a great political thinker trying to sing.
Ya srsly, who ever heard of artists and entertainers employing social criticism in their work? That's totally out of keeping with their role in society.

And that means both that they are good at it and that it was Janis Joplin's style.

After that sidestep you should throw in a twirl to liven up your routine.

She wasn't as outspoken about the war in vietnam or the civil rights movement, but she was very outspoken about feminism and title 9.

I will, but I'm not sure if I count. My wife and I are planning a move to Canada, but it has nothing to do with the outcome of the election. McCain winning could possibly speed up our getting our act together on it, but it really has more to do with a change of scenary.

It looks like we have three people in this thread leaving the country. I should have said "because" instead of "if". Nobody is going to leave the country over McCain's victory. People say that every election. I have never known of somebody who actually did it. Republicans say it about Democrats too. Bill Clinton inspired a lot of talk like that.

Yeah, I agree. I did say I didn't think it counted.

However, political climate was definitely a deciding factor for us, among several others. I think if it were easier to move abroad, you'd probably have seen a lot more in the way of election-inspired exodus in '04.

McCain is going to die in office due to old age, and Barack is going to get assassinated because he is black alright?(Not that I am racist or anything, but people do not like "change".)

      if obama wins

I am leaving the U.S. forever. (Or for a huge amount of time).

I will have lost faith in the U.S. if he does indeed win, I don't need a liberal strolling about in my home country.

Glad i havent enlisted in the U.S marine corps yet beacause if obama wins ile be enlisting in the british royal marines

On the other hand, if mc'cain wins there may yet be hope for this country

What do you think of the upcoming election.

McCain is better than Bush at least. It's not much, but that's the only positive I can think about him.

I've already lost fate in America after Bush became president in 2000. I really don't like McCain, but I still feel he would be a step up from bush.

Look on the bright side. Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh hate John McCain.
