Okay if a game goes into a penalty shootout then yes okay luck is involved, but this doesn't happen in a league, so luck is not as important.

If after 120 minutes you don't win a game with skill, then yes luck comes into it, but I thought he was referring to fooball in general.

I think there is a lot of luck involved. The top teams are SO good that it is hard to have a clear winner when only 1, 2, or 3 goals are scored. That is why you have teams totally outplay the other but still lose. Then there is the whole shootout issue.

Instead of a shootout, they should have more extra time where each player can only use 1 leg. Then one eye. Then no eyes. Then finally no ears for sonar.

I'm sorry, but in such a short time (90 mins), luck is involved. Because that is not enough time to determine a clear winner. If the match went on for several hours, with more breaks (which of course is not practical for entertainment), then one team would start to emerge as being more skillful, with a more pronounced goal lead. However, in the short 90 mins of normal football, luck plays a large part in the more evenly matched games - people being in the right places at the right times, lucky deflections etc.

Of course luck is involved, but by luck that could be getting a lucky decision from the ref, a lucky ricochet of a player for a goal - but in no way is the game 80% luck or you wouldn't see the same teams every year getting to the finals of these major tournaments! I would say only a very small amount is luck (excluding a penalty shootout).

You never see San Marino getting anywhere in major tournaments - or even England for that matter, and that is because the skill levels are not there, not because we're not getting 80% of the luck...

England missed the tournament by one point, drawing at Old trafford, with Macedonia and at Israel; losing to Croatia Home and away not forgetting the away loss to Russia when we were 1-0 up. One of those lost points has to be down to bad luck.

OK, 80% was an overstatement - I was just being silly. Maybe the other way round, 20 -80. But I stick by my statement. Luck is a larger part of the game than skill in evenly matched games.

About fucking time, look how many quarter finals we have lost on penalties.

If Spain can get to the final, so can we.

Okay! The final match is under way. Go Germany!!

Btw which team was it that scored on themselves in 2006? Germany almost did the same a while ago. They, btw, don't seem to be aggressive enough at the moment.

Historic, because it's the first time Russia has won anything.
