I listen to random modern orchestrated songs, and also mostly newer songs like hoobastank and some of teh new kid rock songs, but the old eminem songs are always best (ie:loose yourself, the real slim shady, that "what i am" thing and so on)...

      Hi.
I don't know what sort of music you like, but Audioscrobbler and/or Last.fm might be worth a try. It will take some time, but your listening habits are recorded and matched to that of other people, which will - by means of some statistic magic - result in recommendations of new music, that you will probably like.

great hip hop: Tribe Called QUest and Blackalicious

Great uplifting classical music/alternative rock: Polyphonic Spree(excellent)

Tripped out, happy rock: flaming lips

Excellent. amazing, contemprary jazz: Medeski Martin and Wood

Amazing all around band. Witty, original, classic:They Might Be Giants

Soulfull alternative/folk/good song writer: Ben Kweller(if you like bob dylan, the beatles, and weezer.....but Im might be off so jsut check him out anyways if you dont)

Really, very hard to find, underground techno with a lot of old jazz mixed in: the Greenskeepers

And for every weezer fan out there...especially fans of classic weezer: Ozma. I think theyre as good as weezer, and the difference might be hard to tell at first, but thier style is very unique.

      Ok...I guess thats it.

I'd give you some suggestions, but my music collection is probably not to your taste.

But I may have some stuff you like if I knew what kind of stuff you like. You didn't give us much to go on.

I was thinking about further checking out deftones, I have heard a couple of their songs and thought they were okay. I have a couple opeth albums.

what I'm looking for is something different, something original with a unique sound, something that doesn't sound exactly like the hundereds of bland songs they play on the radio that all sound the same.

I know I'm being pretty vague so here is some more info

I generally like metal, particularly black metal I think...(though I don't really know what makes black metal black metal, I just know that dimmu borgir and emperor and cof are and I love those bands). I really like metal that has symphony and some singing in it, not JUST heavy music and screaming/growling. I ALSO like rock, but it totally depends on that, I don't like anything in particular. I really just want something new. I bought a Placebo album today, Black Market Music, it sounds ok. I like the sound of the first song and one other one but I don't really like the rest...(though I haven't quite given it a fair listen yet) anyway I really want a cd of a new artist and like every song on it. SURELY there is something out there for me. I mean I have like 5 Emperor albums and 3 Dimmu Borgir albums and I love every song on each CD, surely there is another atrist out there for me! :

anyway thanks for helping me guys, I really just made this thread because I was pissed, what happened to the rant section :0

oh yes and I like some classical, but I like it to sound really...dark. I haven't been able to find any like that
