Yes, the Iraq dossier was incorrect. But we're not talking about that. What you are suggesting is that:

Scenario: Osama Bin Laden has made videotapes in which he speaks Arabic.

(Your) Statement: We shouldn't trust "the government's" translation.

Arguments Against:

• The tapes have been translated several times, often independently from any government, and these translations are the same in spirit if not exact language as those of any government,
• The lack of veracity of any "incorrect" translation would be easily be exposed by anyone vaguely fluent in both Arabic and English, which is a lot of people,
• Any translation coming from a high profile source, such as the CIA, is going to be studied, and if incorrect exposed,
• Any such exposure would be extremely damaging to the CIA and thus there would be no reason to release an incorrect translation, and,
• There have been no serious arguments over the translation outside of crappy forums.

Arguments For:

• None whatsoever

Bin laden is most likely dead because he had a serious disease and if the didn't get proper medical treatment he would most certainly die..
