yea i know. i want to know why she feels dressing in all black, and putting pale make up on is going to help? why does looking like a dead french poet make you feel better?

im not saying depression is bad. i get depressed all the time but i don't see why you would exclude yourself from so many opportunities just because of it. i also found that most goths don't do it because they're depressed, they do it to be different... it's so hypocritical. be different by joining another group of kids. that’s bull, be different because you are different, not because you think that you'll be accepted by this clique more. BE YOURSELF!

theres nothing wrong with being different either. the most interesting people i know are "different."

you're being quite judgmental my friend...I suggest you get to know a true goth before you judge them ALL by your simple and faulty idea of what a goth is and is all about. I'll have you know I AM MYSELF, I ACT LIKE MYSELF. I didn't say 'omg I want to be goth now because that's different!" and slap on some black makeup and clothes and go my all of Mansons albums.

Exactly what IS a goth? Can someone /properly/ define them? Is a goth someone who dresses in black? Wears alot of makeup? Listens to hateful music?
See, I find it very difficult to tell ANYONE that their a goth, mainly because its not a word you can call someone. There is no definition for it in the dictionary therefor goths dont exist.

See, but this is just my veiw on these things...rather irritating to hear someone judging others over how they look.

Ok, now this statment irritates me.
First off, I agree, depression isn't bad. Second of all, you /obviously/ dont get depressed all the time, or never have had a seriouse case of it if you truely believe that. Depression is a condition that (along with alot of other things) makes you loose interest in most everything you would do. Most to all opportunities that pass you by when your depressed is because you find said opportunities too trivial to really take up, or just dont care at all about them. I just want you to know that you shouldn't speak about such things if you dont understand the full depths of such subjects.

PS: This was all spoken from personal experiance
      ....yeah

"Goth" is another one of those blanket terms that shove a bunch of very different people into one catagory. It still boggles my mind why humans have this innate need to catagorize everything so neatly. It just doesn't make sense to me. Still, abiding by the rules that we as a whole have created, 'goth' would mean whatever stereotypical picture comes into your mind when you hear the word 'goth'.

Personally, I agree with Paperdoll. I think everyone--no matter what category we put them in--is different and no one should be judged by outward appearances. Dressing in the goth style doesn't necessarily mean that person is depressed, masochisic, or even listens to heavy music. Nor does it mean they 'worship the devil' (I hate when people say that about anyone without first getting to know them). All it means is that person has chosen a particular style that they feel suits them, visually. Every tatoo, every stitch of clothing and makeup, is an artistic expression. It's no different than a bunch of studious fellows wearing Gap clothes or something. It's just a way to express yourself in a way that's comfortable to you. Everyone is different.

Remember--you are an individual. Just like everyone else.

“Wanting to be someone else is a waste of the person you are.”

People feel the need to neatly categorize things because they're uncomfortable with concepts they can't define in some way. Labeling is a simple way of assigning them a category, and a lot of people have issues with not knowing how to categorize and identify someone as if they're a certain species of animal.
It's just an easier way of describing someone, and easy is appealing to the instant gratification generation we belong to, I guess. I can't say I'm fond of being shoved into a category like that (although when people try to label me they get really confused. They usually end up calling me 'poser' because they can't figure out what I am, and then get mad when I ask them what I'm posing as, and that kind of entertains me).

Stupid labels! Labels are for soup cans. ... or something.
I think I'm running out of any trace of intelligence, so I'll be quiet now.
