What did you think of ld4all forum?

I know a bunch of people where over there while this one wasn't working. What did you think of it? I thought it looked pretty nice, untill I started posting a lot that is. A lot of the people there kind of bug me and most of the forums seem to be pretty inactive. Atleast compared to here, though I am not sure if that is really fair heh.

yay, this again. they have their own thing and we have ours. they like their community and we like ours. they did what they could to help us out when we had trouble and we would do the same... please leave it at that or go through the many other posts made on the subject to hear the unvarnished opinions of others.

Where? I looked like 6 times through all the forums and I couldn't find a single thread about it. Which is why I ended up asking here.

Why'd they bug you? It seems like a cool place.
Some of them really like the whole 'beyond dreaming' take on LD'ing, but I didnt really wanna start any trouble there, we have our own "beyond dreaming" forum here with enough fruitcakes.
I would have posted there more, but I cant really keep up with two LD forums as intensively as I would like to, and DV's is my first love so I'll stick with it.

It was a little New-Agey for my tastes, but then I think it evolved from Sea Life--have you seen that forum? They're trying to dream the new millenium by living on a 13-month calendar ordained by some Mayan Latter-day Saint. I get the impression that was the first real presence of LDs on the net--no wonder some people think it's occult.

So yeah, I like this community more, even if the kids in the "Beyond Dreaming" forum do watch too much Dragonball-Z, but LD4all was very welcoming, and they have some cool resources (the Lucid Lab). Plus, if they weren't there absorbing all the New-Agers, those people would be over here telling us about how "spiritual" it is to LD and "resonate in harmony with the universe" on an "astral plane."
If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

I thought LD4ALL was a pretty cool site. I really enjoyed meeting and getting to know some of the members over there.
What was interesting was that I could draw parallels between some of their members and some of ours. I guess there are a finite number of personality types.

How many of you participated in forums other than the Lifeboat while you were there? I seem to remember some neat conversations.

Anyway, I will be spending most of my time here, but, I do try to stop in over there a few times a week to see what's going on.

Yep, while DV was down I found ld4all to be quite good, except I didn't like their design at all.

      Nothing like DV though.

I agree. They're not so much into the 'Beyond Dreaming' thing as SeaLife, but it's still pretty bad comparitively. You're right, we do have a forum for 'Beyond Dreaming' here, but there it seemed to have spread out and taken over the whole site...like Zerg creep...*shudder*

This is completely the wrong way round??

Sealife is a new forum only a year old, LD4all has been around for over 4 years to my knowledge.

--have you seen that forum? They're trying to dream the new millenium by living on a 13-month calendar ordained by some Mayan Latter-day Saint. I get the impression that was the first real presence of LDs on the net--no wonder some people think it's occult.[/b]
The Mayan callendar is of particular intrest to the forums owner/starter the 13 moons callendar is part of making the forum unique in its layout and some specific forum sections but it does not effect most of the dreamers who work in groups to inprove LDing frequency etc. You can take or leave it.

I personally find the tribal nature of all the forums a turn off, LD4all, Dreamviews, Sealife, Fishbowl etc, I'm a member of all and appreciate them all but do get irritated by any form of universal forum view? To be part of DV you have to be a logical rationalist, to be a sealifer a hippy

WHATEVER... I've just had a meal with a couple of Europe's top scientists and I'm a fine artist, we've been talking about just this sort of fixed inflexible view of topics, what we agreed that you cannot call yourself a scientist or an artist and have a view assuming one view is wrong/lesser than your own without rationally examining in detail and being flexible enough to understand the others and your own rational for your views.

LDers are rare on the net, very very rare! DV + LD4all + Sealife + Fishbowl amounts to the membership of the most minority of internet forums.

TOP 5 NET FORUMS (I clicked the post numbers rank) first number posts, 2nd members

      1. FaceTheJury - Real life picture rating forums 95821167 - 552000

      2. Vault Network boards - Role playing games discussion boards 86059907 - 518723

      3. IGN boards - General video gaming message boards 83257781 - 1147306

      4. Gaia Online - Anime roleplaying community 78603490 - 967698

      5. Off Topic - General discussion forums 23189465 - 23197

Look at the member numbers and posts of some of these top net forums, others forums have over 3 million members!

Yes it puts me off when kids think Dragon ball is somehow a solid reality but DB didn't drop out of the air, its part of a traditional japanese myth, and although many may scoff at humanities unscientific ancient beliefs many like the medicial properties of centuries used plants have a grain or even more of a grain of truth.

My scientist housemate and freind were talking about the zodiac (horoscope) as one is Korean and over their its common to follow it properly rather than reading the generic newspaper version. They like me thought it all pretty pointless but admitted that they could definately see grains of truth as the position of moon, sun or planets greatly effect life of earth, plant/animals in different ways and they could see how it might effect a lifeforum in subtile ways in concert with its genetic makeup.

Anyway I'd say that DV/LD4all/Sealife etc would be doing a diservice to its members to reject newage knitting together of a wide net of spiritual systems just as much as the reverse of rejecting scientific rationalism and investigation.

I realise I might be speaking out of turn here and I've just racked up my second bottle of wine, *hic* but I can't stand fixed views, if your all such rationalists on this forum you know that Godel proved that 2+2=4 does NOT have the fixed point of reference that its assumed it has... yep it was that kind of dinner party!

I'm finding these days I like the phrase "Mobility of Consciousness," I'm not a big PC kind of person but this does fit LD's AP's, trips on LSD/DMT or whatever you choose to make the break from what you'd term as reality.

....Ok I'm putting the bottle down and going to bed...

Actually it was a Chinese myth. The Japanese took it and modified it into their own story aka DB.

Well pantalimon I'd say I have to respect your outlook on things. Though I don't think this utopia of mutual acceptance will ever be achieved. The world is full of contradictions and misconceptions about others, that's just the realism of society.

Personally I'd actually be against an universal mentality, in both the limited microcosms of LD forums and in the greater world. There would be no variety, no creativity, no diversity of thoughts. I'd say people should just find their niche and be happy there. After all, the Internet is a big place.

Well, weren't you padfoot's sister or something?

...I don't know why your name strikes a bell. Or maybe his sister was just called dreamer. It's a bit hazy, actually...

I liked my time over there. Most were welcoming and friendly. Its was great that they even created the life boat, Jeff and Q were fantastic.. Only trouble i ran into were a few judgemental people when it came to drug addiction. But its was all resolved in a nice manner so all in all i cant complain. I'll still go there for sure. DV is number 1 tho.

      Peace Sensi.

I think "scientific rationalist" is not an accurate characterization of DV. "Tipsy," I think, says more about our community.

Anywho, I'd say DV has its New Age side, too--it's just less pronounced than LD4all, and I like this mix a little better.

I'm glad you guys are keeping this civil. Thanks!

I am a big fan of First Amendments rights, but I am also ready to jump to the defense of my friends.

Please keep on keeping this a friendly and civil conversation. Perhaps mention the things you like about LD4ALL as well as those things you might not like so much?
