http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...ByO8g&refer=us I was in the middle of watching some shitty movie on Comedy Central (Bachelor 2 I think...) and this little black bar pops up on the bottom saying something along the lines of Time Warner dropping 18 channels from their listing including Nickelodeon, Spike, Comedy Central and 15 others. Now I can't get through to any of their customer support people. This honestly doesn't make sense to me. They're going to lose a lot of customers doing this, which will hurt them a lot more then having to pay Viacom for 18 channels. By the way, their waiting music sucks ass.

So I finally got through with a Customer Service rep and basically said not to worry. He sounded really stressed though so I'm sure I'm not the first person calling in about it, I really hope our internet isn't affected from it.

Actually DishNetwork did something similar a year or so ago. We got the channels back a bit later. All it is really is a negotiation tactic. They're paying too much for the right to broadcast those channels, so they threaten to drop them. When Viacom (or whoever) doesn't adjust their prices, DishNetwork (or in this case Time Warner) follows through on their threat, to demonstrate that they are not bluffing. In the end, Viacom can't afford to lose the profit, so they re-negotiate the contract, and DishNetwork gets the channels back a month (or less) later. What they'll likely do is drop cetain channels from the basic package, and make them available at the next package level. That's what happened with DishNetwork.

Sorry in im not very literate in this kind of stuff The channels that are being lost are being lost because of failed negotiations with Viacom, so it will affect anyone with Time Warner Cable of some sort. I'm starting to think they may have been bluffing though, we haven't lost any of the threatened channels yet.
