A meteorite fell on earth (really)

This is no joke guys. A meteorite fell right next to my buddy´s house. I found it, and now I have it. It´s about the size of a half of a fist. If I´m correct, only 13 of these have been found from my country (finland).

How can I be sure, that this is the real thing?
      Is it valuable?

I'm not sure if it's valuable or not. Mail it to me so I can check.

There's probably a space research/science museum in your area/country you can contact. Tell them you found a meteorite and don't know where to go from here.

They'd be more than willing to help you out, especially if it's true.

Although, why do you think it's a meteorite?

I went to see the finnish meteorite article from wikipedia, and it had a guide on how to tell if something is a meteorite. This thing is just what wiki describes. For example, it is magnetic, it has a molten side that has these special shapes on it... It has a side that has these small balls all over it.. Umm.. It´s full of holes.. The molten side is slightly red.. It has some very fine (right word?) iron on it.. Hmm.. I think I´ll just post a picture.. Gonna take a min.

(I´m not sure if the word is meteor or meteorite or what)

Was there any damage where you found it?

Hmmmm. Just seems kind of odd, I'm curious to know how are you sure it's a meteorite? Did you actually see it fall from the sky or as Bonsay mentioned, did you see any indentations in the area of impact?

Nope. Someone just saw something on the sky some time ago. I went to the place where it was "maybe" seen. I wasn´t even looking for the meteorite, I just happened to kick the ground and it revealed this rock. I took to my home. It was about a year ago. Now I have it here.

In all seriousness. I hope you didn't touch it with your hands. Only god knows the radiation levels seething within that rock. You could grow a second nose before the week is out.

No, only the thorium-rich lunar meteorites are slightly radioactive.

No meteorites examined today have been radioactive, any radioactive materiel would have decayed long time ago.

      Of course it's not radioactive...

it's not like space is infinite and the finite amount of radioactive rocks in space has already been used up.

It could still be radioactive though. Space is infinite.

That metaphor isn't even remotely in the same contextual ball park as his meteorite possibly harboring radiation.

By looking at your picture and the pictures from the site Specialis gave, I don't think your find is a meteorite. Yours looks like it has vesicles. But that doesn't mean the rock isn't special. Something drew you to it.
I often pick up rocks that catch my eye when I travel or go into the woods to explore.

You are riding on a radioactive rock right now.

As long as we`re on the topic, Radioactive was a good show.
