Ah, sobriety... So We Meet Again.

Ugh. Got random piss tests for the next month, so I can't smoke OR drink anything until May 29th. Sucks. It's already been almost two months since I've smoked, so that's not really that huge a deal, but I spend every break time during work, 6 days a week, at the tavern with my friends.

Bah...oh well. It must be done.

Why do you have to take random 'piss' tests?

Yeah, it is. But the class I'm taking considers it a drug (which, I can't really argue with), so they put it on the list of things that can't show up in my piss test.

Wow, do they test for caffine and excess amounts of sugar in your blood as well? I've never heard of taking piss tests for alcohol as well as drugs.

      No. A bit biased, right?
I mean, my own frustration aside, I can understand why they group it in with such 'recreational' drugs. So, while I want to bitch and moan about it, my reasonable side can't help but understand.

Yeah, I suppose it isn't completely unreasonable if they testing for 'recreational' drugs, which definitely does include alcohol. If I were you I would argue it a bit, just to get a point across but not push it to the point where you'd be excluded from whatever it is you are doing this for.

      Still though, that is hurting...

Probably not worth it to argue, people in a position of power don't have to listen to reason, they can simply fire you.

That does suck though, I would probably argue even though I know it's a bad idea, I can't help myself when it comes to situations of ignorance. There are other drugs that won't show up on most piss tests though that you could use to tide yourself over. That's a real piss off though that you can't even drink alcohol, I mean it's legal, and what you do on your own time is your business, as long as it doesn't interfere with your work than it shouldn't matter. Seems like an invasion of privacy.... Oh well, what can you do.... Eat the shit, grin and bare it I guess.

It would be completely pointless to argue, other than to draw negative attention to myself. The lady that runs the classes doesn't set the criterion. This piss tests are done in an affiliate lab, and the classes are mandated by the court.

What good would arguing do? It's nothing she hasn't heard possibly thousands of times before.

Yeah, I guess it would be a bad Idea. But like Bayside said I probably won't be able to help myself. Maybe if you could bring up a point in a way that made it seem like you didn't really care or something lol...I dunno, I guess it's better that nothing is said.

This is why communication is only possible between equals. Which is what the internet is good for due to the lack of identity and repercussion. Although this is the reason why people don't mind being bigots and racists on the internet which can get annoying.

I'm terrible for arguing, I've almost been kicked out of my house so many times for it.... I just can't help myself when I have justification for my actions, and nobody will listen or understand. Especially for matters relating to drug use, because it's such a piss of when 3/4's of our society or more think that it's okay to drink copious amounts of alcohol and coffee every week, but damn, you smoke one joint or drop one pill and you're morally unacceptable and doomed to a life of addiction and pain. All because of the connotations that the media and popular opinion have designated to these drugs.

Aha, I'm starting to rant again. I get so worked up over this shit. Especially when people suffer unnecessarily in certain situations where drugs can be so beneficial, like terminal cancer patients. My grandmother is suffering right now, and there are a bunch of studies out there that have proved THC as a cancer destroying substance, but it's illegal, and so my grandmother would/could never touch it. MDMA has been shown to be beneficial in helping anxiety in terminal cancer patients, but once again, because of the connotations put to it, it won't be used anytime soon in medical cases like this.....

Sorry, I went off again. Rant over. This is why I have trouble biting my tongue in these situations. But yeah, O is right obviously, there's no point in arguing this stuff. It's not the lady at the desks fault.

I completely sympathize with you. And though it probably won't help you change your perspective, or your gut impulse to argue, you have to realize what's just as important as sticking up for you beliefs - and that's "picking and choosing your battles wisely." It's a good thing to be outspoken enough to stand up for yourself when you feel you're in the right, but often not when used recklessly.

Thanks, that's good advice. I think I've been slowly but surely coming to that realization for awhile now.

Anyway, good luck on your sobriety trip. Sometimes it's nice to stay sober for awhile, have a sort of refreshing clean period. I tend to get more shit done when I don't drink or smoke for awhile, I can stick to better exercise routines, have more productive practice time on my guitar, etc.. Sobrieties not so bad sometimes.

That sucks and really pissed me off, but you should understand that it happened because the government knows better than you do what decisions you should be making for yourself in a free country and threatens you over personal decisions because it loves you so much. It was the whole point of the founding of the USA. I am glad we have a government to be our daycare workers.

I am with you. It is infuriating. Nobody can explain how alcohol is supposed to be safer than marijuana, which is it worlds from, yet alcohol gets celebrated on television while good people rot in prison for ten years for having two fucking marijuana plants. That shows something really rotten about society.

Odd that you're being dragged into sobriety, O; today is the first time I've seriously craved a beer since I gave it up just after New Years. Perhaps it's the delicate balance of the universe, which one should not resist

If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

Yeah, that's pretty much how I've been looking at it. Might as well make the best of a bad situation.

Yeah. At this point, I see the system more like one of those "Good Guy" dolls that becomes Chucky in Child's Play.

I don't know O's line of work, but having grown up around roofers and contractors, I can tell you that waiting for a break shows remarkable restraint. Even execs do martini lunches. Not long ago, I had a guy on a plumbing crew offer me a can of Bud he had in his pocket. I think it was around 11:45am.

      Got a pro'lem wit it?

Our call center is practically attached to the Tavern, structurally. They have good food, cheap beer and darts. Why would I go anywhere else? I mean it's not like I go get wasted on a 30 minute lunch.

I'm a telemarketer, and I hate my job. Lol. They're lucky I don't get wasted on my break, as stressful as my job is.

I thought that's exactly what you meant, that you'd go get wasted during lunch.

Yeah as my British friend would say, I wouldn't have the minerals for a telemarketing job.
